Honda Build

The width doesn't matter in this regard. The height is what matters. Width is only going to determine how much of that tire grabs that hoop when you're plugging along at 50mph and hit a pothole.

the hoop isnt straight. it has a 4 inch incline just a bit steeper than this:

Exactly. That bike in that pic WILL HAVE CLEARANCE ISSUES. Just because someone built it doesn't make it right. Whether you like their personalities or not, guys with experience have told you it won't work right, and they are correct. Believe it or not, argue if you want, but that seat setup will rub.

OK well guess what? When it rubs I will post about it. I wont be the first or last to have a bike this way.

Its my deal for better or worse.

Between now and then, nothing left to discuss. Convo ended on that score. Kthanks

Re: Honda CB

This arguement is occuring for the 800th time and its killing me. Want to know if you have clearance issues with your current tire and shocks? Remove one shock. Ratchet strap to full shock compression. See if tire rotates freely. If it does not you have failed to replicate an asthetically pleasing design with factory or better performance and may be at risk for injury or death. You ok with that fine. If not seek solutions. Im going to make a flow chart if this continues!

Yep. Talked to a friend in AZ who has a 550 with a style similar to mine (I grew up in AZ moved to nyc when i was 16). Says its no big deal. Im mean, ive bottomed out in cars before. I know its different but im not going to worry about that now. Not at all.

Ive called for them to stop harping on the clearance issue. Im not overly concerned about it. It is what it is. My life.

Holy hell. That's great.

Sad thing is, we're still trying to help you.

Glad to see "the old jwilde" back. Blatant disregard for safety in Lou of "style". I had such high hopes too

"in lieu..."

I didnt say i disregarded it. I know what im going to do and how im going to address it, if at all. Im just not going to talk about it beyond this. Its my life.

here's another forums take on it. Pay close attention to the "upswept" part which provides more clearance.

Like i told you, i dont want to argue with you anymore *waves white flag* . Clearly you are knowledeable and thats appreciated. I will deal with any clearance issues. right now, the pic only tells half the tale. I may very well have enough clearance. We shall see

Re: Honda CB

FWIW, I am not convinced that the rear tire will hit the hoop, but it is worth checking that it doesn't hit the bottom of the seat pan. BYW, when a car or most bikes Bottom Out all it means is that the suspension is fully compressed. In this case, the concern that is being expressed is that the tire will contact some hard part before the suspension is fully compressed. The consequences can be dire on a motorcycle.

What you chose to do about that is entirely your decision, but it doesn't cost much to check it and know that you are going to be OK.

THIS IS FREAKISH! I was just reading a post you responded to back in 2010 about this very same topic! Thanks for chiming in. And yes, I will be making sure this is taken care of as best able if need be. I have 100% confidence in my builder dude. This guy KNOWS his stuff and I trust him completely. So while it may not LOOK like there is enough clearance, I have ZERO doubt hes checked it all through.

Re: Honda CB

Simply relieve whatever surface is contacted. If seat pan maybe even a small hump to clear tire, hidden by cushion. If hoop maybe a slightly more agressive upsweep

to be honest, i bet my builder dude already checked and im sure clearance is fine. though it may not look like it. Im not kidding when I say hes like a bike Yoda. Hes very very good.
