Installed new ignition coils, now my cb450 won't run :(

I'm thinking a top end rebuild will make huge improvement on the bike overall. But engine rebuilding scares me.

How much would it cost for an engine rebuild at a shop?

at 140 psi its down a bit, leave it alone.
Unless you find a shop that 'knows' CB450/500T its going to cost a shitload and possible be no better than when you started.
Its going to be expensive at any dealers although Honda tell dealers they cannot refuse to work on older Honda's ( risk loosing dealership if they refuse) they usually give stupidly outrageous price quotes to compensate ( probably in the $2,000+ range)
50mph, in second?
Its not even close to revving if its a higher gear

What do you mean by 50 mph? I'm not sure how motorcycle gearing works.

I guess I'd be better off selling the bike for something more modern. It was fun building but I just want to start riding.

I am in the middle of rebuilding my motor. I'm doing it myself, except for the machining work. It was $90 to redo the valve seats and lap the valves. It was $25 to hone the cylinders. It will be about $30-$40 for new rings and another $30 for a gasket set. When all is said and done I will have spent about $250. But of course I wanted to learn how to do it. It was kinda scary when I took it apart, but now that I see how it works, it ain't so bad. We'll see how easy it goes back together though. ;)

Did you have any problems riding it to school? If it's running alright, just ride it around for awhile until your ready to work on it. Maybe take it to someone who works on old bikes and see if there is anything easy he can do to get it running fairly reliably. I would have just rode mine all summer if it weren't for that stupid bent valve.

You mentioned you had it up to 50 riding to school, its got 5 gears (or does that one have 4?)
50 in second gear would be revving a little bit ;D
It's not stressing motor in any way the way your riding it so just keep riding.
Check oil every 100~200 miles and top up as needed. (maybe a little more frequent until you have an idea how much its using, wait until its at bottom mark of dipstick so you know how far you can go)
My XS650 is now using about a quart every 200 miles, but, I beat the hell out of it in Orlando traffic for 2 years and 17,000+ miles.
Still runs reasonable well, just don't want to have another bike stripped down until I get one or two finished. :D
It is going to get the trtatment eventually though.
