I'm going to pack a lot of stuff in this thread in a short amount of time.

The goal, put together an eye catching bike for shows, that is rideable enough to go bar hopping on.

How I bought it.

Let it sit for a while, thinking of what I wanted it to be. Then, got to work.

Started with the subframe.

Then actually got to work.

Lots of bracing and such. Then tied the subframe together with a heavy brace.

After the rear of the frame was tied up, I changed carbs on iy.

Mocked it up to take and sit in front of my booth at Barber.

I'll have to snap some pics, but made swingarm bolts for the 748 swingarm, along with spacers to center it. A 400 thousandths offset front sprocket to line it all up. Machined the top and bottom shock bolts.

Used one of the seats I build and sell, along with the rearsets I sell (Not finished machining in this shot. Still have to put the radius on it.) Set it up with a GP shift, so I don't have any clearance issues with the swingarm bolt.

Rearsets, being indexed, are perfectly suitable for bikes with a master for the rear.

Didn't take any pics of it, but I built an aluminum tray to relocate all electronics under the tail.

Am in the process of getting a 4 into 4 exhaust system built for it, along with one of the fairings I sell.

This is going to be the color. It's called "Iron Cast." Gorgeous color when cleared.

Hoping to have this on the road by the weeks end.

Re: 1982 CB750K I don't call it a café but everybody else seems to.

Getting the exhaust in place and welded up. Still need to build baffles for the 4 pipes.

I like the Yuengling, that is Pennsylvania thinking juice.

Bike is looking good to!

Re: 1982 CB750K I don't call it a café but everybody else seems to.

Sad to say, I am out of it. I live West of the Mississippi now. I try to bring back 20 cases or so every time I go somewhere that sells it.

That sucks, I don't know if you have a UPS account but if you want some sent they are here every day, I could pack up a case.

Re: 1982 CB750K I don't call it a café but everybody else seems to.

I'll keep that in mind. I'm about to head home to Florida as soon as I finish this bike, and more than likely over indulge in Yuengling.

Re: 1982 CB750K Monoshock, SSSA, USD Front, Bar Hopper.

Was slightly worried about the small Ballistic battery. But, I fired her up with it yesterday for the first time in a while. fired up within a half a second of hitting the button.

On the motor. It is stock. It was a good running engine when I bought it. Didn't really see a need to rip in to it and spend a bunch of un-necessary money on it. When the time comes, I'll rip it apart, do a full rebuild, maybe a big bore kit (can do it in my shop, won't have to spend a fortune for someone else's machine work).

I paid $400 for the bike at Barber. Sold about $500 in extra parts that came with it that I didn't need. I originally purchased a VFR800 rear end for it. Picked it up for $250. Sold it for $465, and picked up the Ducati set up for $350. Have $400 in the carb set up.

All in all, I am in it for about $350 + materials to build the reatsets, seat, fairing, and exhaust (less than $50). All in all, I have about 40 hours in to it.

Re: 1982 CB750K Monoshock, SSSA, USD Front, Bar Hopper.

Amazing what the right tools and know how can turn out. Nicely done.

Re: 1982 CB750K Monoshock, SSSA, USD Front, Bar Hopper.

Should be on the road tomorrow afternoon, weather permitting. It's sleeting now, supposed to be 70 tomorrow, and snow on Sunday. I'm going to put some miles on it, makes changes as necessary, then take a day, paint and powder the frame, and put it back together.

Looking forward to wrapping this one up, and getting started on the two Sportsters and a CB500.

Re: 1982 CB750K Monoshock, SSSA, USD Front, Bar Hopper.

Getting her painted. Tank, seat, and wheels will be this color. Frame will be Satin black when I tear it back down to paint the engine, after I make sure everything is in good working order, and I'm certain I won't have to do any more welding on it.

Re: 1982 CB750K DOHC Monoshock, SSSA, USD Front, Bar Hopper.

My crutch, I get sidetracked and start working on new projects before I finish the current one.

This, is the CB500F my dad and I put together a few years ago. I rode her hard and often, right about 35,000 miles in a year.

Completely changing the look on her.

On the 750, have to bleed the brakes, button everything up, and she'll be on the road. It's snowing out, and is supposed to to continue through the weekend, so I have some time to play right now.

Re: 1982 CB750K DOHC Monoshock, SSSA, USD Front, Bar Hopper.

Very nice stuff.

I would have considered totally stripping any vestiges of the old rear clip off the base frame, then create all new roots for it, IF I KNEW HOW TO WELD! Actually, I can weld, but not well enough to make something like that look professionally done.

That's the first time I've seen that dual Mikuni kit, good reviews?

Re: 1982 CB750K DOHC Monoshock, SSSA, USD Front, Bar Hopper.

It seems to run fine idling, bliping the throttle inside. I have yet to ride it with them on. If they don't perform the way I want them to, a set of CR's will be installed.

I can weld. I hate welding, and try to do as little as possible. The only reason I didn't start a little father forward on the 750, it allowed me to keep the tank mount, and gussets that were factory welded.

Re: 1982 CB750K DOHC Monoshock, SSSA, USD Front, Bar Hopper.

It's going to be one heck of a nice bike.

Re: 1982 CB750K DOHC Monoshock, SSSA, USD Front, Bar Hopper.

I hope so. I certainly won't call it a "Cafe Racer," although that seems to be what people associate it with. But, she'll be a fun bar hopper.

I tried the dual Mikuni carbs last year, without much luck. Although the bike started well enough, on the road it was far from good.
When I got home the manifolds were covered in condensation , and very cold. When I removed the float bowls there was a fair amount of water in there. I eventually gave up with them.
