I may have prompted this thread when I went to check on the turbo bike and saw all posts deleted. I am glad he mentioned it, I was worried about him.

The intertubes is serious business.

What you fail to realize, is that this place is a lot more of just the internet to some of us. A lot of these guys have stayed at my house. I have stayed in theirs. Because of this place, we met IRL, and established lifelong friendships. So yeah, sometimes it's serious business.

Very true. A lot of us look at ppl here as sort of family, and when one pf the family disappears, its a serious matter to the rest of us. Especially when there's drama afoot at the hands of someone who neither knows, nor cares what they say or who it affects.

I was in a bar once that I didn't like. I tried to leave quietly but the bouncer dragged me back and made pay my tab.

LOL, LOL, LOL, ;D ;D ;D
That's funny, don't care who you are (plus, I don't remember ever hearing it before 8) )

Kanticoy said it best... alot more than just a forum. i have met many of the local guys to me and ride wiht them reg... hell i got 8 or 9 text messages asking me ?'s and How - to's last night! it is alot more than just a forum to me, it is a place to hang out with my friends

I haven't met any members in person yet but I have swapped parts and knowledge with plenty of them. I have several friends that I met on a pop up camper forum that I belonged to that I've been camping with for at least 6 years now. I don't even have the pop up anymore but I still frequent the forum to check up on my friends. I was a moderator on that forum for several years so I know how the shit talking can affect some people while others just brush it off or even fire right back with their own smack. I think they even set up a private section on the forum for the long timers. You had to have a certain # of posts and been around for a certain amount of time to get in. Might be something to consider here.

that is actually really common on alot of furums... you have to have 1500 posts on most private sections to get in..

I am seriously slacking. I've been here for a little over 3 years now and I haven't even hit the 500 mark. Of course I did spend last winter repairing my Nighthawk after I slid it into a ditch at 45mph instead of working on my cafe racer. Sold that bike, bought a Bandit for my regular rider and got back to work on the cafe. :D

^ THIS ^
This forum is how I stay in touch with friends, in between the once (or twice) a year we get to meet in person.

I would gurantee you that there will never be "private" sections or post count resptrictions on DTT. This place is NOT some elitist country club, and Im sure Tim will keep it that way. That said, I have become closer friends with some people here than I am to folks Ive known for fifteen years. Ive stayed in there homes and they in mine. Hell, Justin is coming up this weekend. Six hour drive each way, just to hang out for a night. The point is that this place, to many of us, is much more than some internet hangout. Its a way for us to share our lives from across the country, or globe. Call that lame or silly, I dont care. I dont think most other people do either. Im rambling... Sorry. I just think its cool that because of DTT I know I can pick up the phone right now and b.s. with guys I know are my friends from Australia to California and many places in between.

What you fail to realize is this further legitimizes the validity of my joke.

If these friendships are so serious then this "whine and goodbye" post is much more hilarious. Male friends do not do this shit. Superficial female friends do this shit.

Men turn into such fucking bitches on the internet. What's next, suicide watch and support groups? Wash the sand from your clits and unfuck yourselves, please.

jwarriner: fuck off mate. You don't know a tic of what you should to be making commentary of this nature in this thread. Trust me boyo you want to shut yer gaping face-hole now if you DO wish to be part of this group. There are circumstances at play here and you're fucking the dog. Can it.

I think it's cool that people can come here to make friends, and I totally respect that. But at the end of the day it was his decision to leave this site and his friends for the reasons he gave. All I know is this: Nobody becomes proficient at anything without asking questions. New people become interested in motorcycles every day. Things become popular because those involved in it have been doing something right. People ape styles not necessarily because they're lazy, but because they genuinely like the way it looks. And lastly, anywhere people discuss how to do something, a portion of those discussions will devolve into arguments. These are undeniable truths. You can either sack up and deal with it, or run away.

Damn swagger. You've got your fire back buddy. Cheers!
Kiley, you've been speaking truth brother. This forum is still an amazing place though. Yeah, we do have a huge influx of poo right now. But there are still people coming through like I did: complete neophytes to bikes who will learn everything they'll know about this hobby through this site. I have found a lifelong passion here, not to mention lifelong friends with like interests. And if the new folk migrate towards the stuff that's trendy now, hopefully they'll jump o another trend. Great things will still come from here.

I dig this place. It has changed a lot since I joined however. It's gotten to the point where I just skip every post with 'CB _ _ _' in the title. The builds with some real vision seem to be few and far between, but if you look at the BOTM nominees every month there is still a lot of original and cool stuff going on. It has definitely changed a lot and I can easily see people leaving at this point. It's obviously the internet so the door is open to any halfwit to come in and put their ignorance on display.

Would a hug help?

I doubt it. We're not that way inclined here. But if you head to SanFran or Palm Springs I'm sure you will find what you're looking for. I have to say Swagger summed it much better than I could. So I'll borrow his line. FUCK OFF!

I think it's kind of a ironic that I remember first following Louie's stuff on the Jockey Journal, place that decided Jap stuff was not allowed on their board and would've dropped the ban hammer on most of the newbie douche bags chiming in on this thread. So then we come here, things are cool for awhile and ALL of the people banned from other boards, whether serious builders with creativity and spark or aforementioned newbie douche bags, show up here. The problem is, the newbie d-bags take over and turn your board into a joke.

I lurk here for VERY limited tech searches and to see what some of the old timers have been building, but I stopped posting regularly because of all the lameness that's permeated this place. Back to my hole under the bridge...
