Maritimes 450 - Got her done for the season and went for a ride F the snow!

Re: Got the 450 Back - Decals arrvied now should I do something to the seat?

I love the new paint scheme, Mike! Looking damn good.

Re: Got the 450 Back - Decals arrvied now should I do something to the seat?

Thanks Justin, kind of a fluke cause I just used what I had for paint in the basement. Do you think I should add something to the sides of the seat? I have been trying to decide if it is too plain. Maybe some sponser decals, or a race number or something? Going to surf a bit o the web and see if anything strikes me.

Cheers

White looks tops with the red decals! Love it! I did two little pin stripy things on my seat. Not sure what look you're going for but you tank looks freakily similar to mine!

Yeah I like your tank. Actually whole bike is great. I have the red stripe on the seat now but was thinking with the flat sides on my hump, should I put something on them as well? The decals match the Duplicolor paint pretty well too.

Re: Got the 450 Back - Decals arrvied now should I do something to the seat?

nice to see you turning one of these into something worthy. i recently acquired a basketcase 450 for free and have struggled to figure out what to do with that nasty stamped frame.

great work so far

Re: Got the 450 Back - Decals arrvied now should I do something to the seat?

Thanks, it started life as a 81 CM400T, my first bike, ugly but running and titled, then the motor tanked and I bolted in the 450 and started on the looks and hadling departments.

Thinking of something like this. The Kanji sysmbol is supposed to be for speed, which is a bit of a joke as this bike isn;t really fast, but it is a hoot to rip around everywhere at full throttle and keep you r license intact.

Re: Got the 450 Back - Decals arrvied now should I do something to the seat?

White com stars with a red hoop would be the biz, but I am not a fan of the kanji. I think nothing on that seat side too keep it clean, or just a small text something right on the bottom of the seat line.

Re: Got the 450 Back - Decals arrvied now should I do something to the seat?

Thanks Brandon, you may be right. Don't want it too busy. And I was thinking the white wheels also now that the tank and seat are white. Duplicolor make their wheel paint in white and I have used that on cars and it is a great paint. Have to wait until the friggin snow melts though to get the wheels out of the shed.

Re: Got the 450 Back - Decals arrvied now should I do something to the seat?

I would use the rustoleum appliance epoxy on the wheels, it looks great and holds up super well, I have done a couple bikes wheels with is now and they have held up great with over a year of riding on them!

Re: Got the 450 Back - Decals arrvied now should I do something to the seat?

Thanks for the heads up on the appliance epoxy, I will grab that instead. It is cheaper usually than Duplicolor also.

Re: Got the 450 Back - Decals arrvied now should I do something to the seat?

do not use the white appliance epoxy on those wheels! the white is UV sensitive and will turn to a dull cream color in about 2 months... same reason i could not leave my tins in the appliance epozy when i built my TX i had to shoot it with a glacier white from dupont and then clear them... the white appliance epoxy yellowed and turned a horrible cream color... onnly use the darker colors of the appliance epoxy as they do not show color changes as theya re affected by the UV rays

Re: Got the 450 Back - Decals arrvied now should I do something to the seat?

Thanks Joe, did not know that, I did my tins in Duplicolor white enamel, so I hope it will be fine in the sun. I will grab the wheel paint, it is a bit expensive but I have used it with the clear on truck wheels and it wroked out well. I still may go the gun metal route as well on the wheels as the white may just be too hard to keep clean.

Re: Got the 450 Back - Decals arrvied now should I do something to the seat?

the paint is tits, man! leave the kanji off its looks better with nothing there (nice and clean). you dont want to over do it. i would go gunmetal on the wheels just so you dont over do the white. just my .02

Re: Got the 450 Back - Decals arrvied now should I do something to the seat?

That tank is nice and original. Pretty racy looking which I dig. Big thumbs down on the Kanji. Makes me think of a 16 year old in a riced out civic.

Re: Got the 450 Back - Decals arrvied now should I do something to the seat?

points taken, kanji is a bit too rice rocket. Yep I think the gunmetal with a red stripe is the way to go on the wheels. White might look ok too but I will never keep them clean.

Re: Got the 450 Back - Decals arrvied now should I do something to the seat?

could always powder them... would be a breeze to clean them... i like white wheels!

Re: Got the 450 Back - Decals arrvied now should I do something to the seat?

Maybe when I need new tires again I could get them powdered. I just put new Avons on last season and don't want to pull them off to paint. I will mask them and paint this time. I also need to switch to chain wax as the spray I have gets all over the back of the bike, even though it is "no fling".

Re: Got the 450 Back - Decals arrvied now should I do something to the seat?

Been a while, but got some stuff done through the bloody winter, which isn't ending here! I have the day off and was going to go out and work on my electrics tray and look at this shit!

I was riding 2 weeks ago last year. The roads here are covered in fricken snow again!

Got the tank cleared. Here it is sitting waiting to go back on the bike

I did manage to get into the shed on a warm day and got the headlight bucket pulled.

Also gas is friggin retarded high here now so if the snow ever stops I will be riding more than driving. The 93 T100 is a little harder on fuel than the old Rav 4 was. So that means picking my son up at daycare. All non downpour days we will be riding together, and since the 450 is best on gas, I worked out a 2-up seat I can swap on and off with the Cafe seat. Both tail lights use the same pigtail connector. I put the back rest on for his comfort and mine.

I hope this afternoon to get out to the shed and button up the tray, I have to lower it a bit to be able to put the factory seat on. I decided to move the R/R anyway to keep it more in the airflow. God I hope the snow stops soon. It was almost gone enough to wheel the bike out and work on it. yesterday and now it's piling up again WTF. I want to ride.

Oh and another note, I officially inherited the "NudieWing" so I can now do whatever mods I want without running them by my father in law. He just decided he was not going to get a license. Now I just need to find $$ to do what I want to her.

Re: Got the 450 Back - Decals arrvied now should I do something to the seat?

Tank looks great with the clear, Mike.

Re: Got the 450 Back - Decals arrvied now should I do something to the seat?

Tank and the headlight bucket look great man!

Re: Got the 450 Back - Decals arrvied now should I do something to the seat?

Thanks guys, wish I could go put them on the bike. I should have grabbed my father in laws propane heater last weekend when we were there, I could be out working in a nice warm shed. Oh well, can't be too long now.
