Re: my cafe/bobber/cafe. bofe racer? build. leaning more towards cafe.lol

my bad. will do.

Re: my cafe/bobber/cafe. bofe racer? build. leaning more towards cafe.lol

ok, so here is a quick mock up of the tail and seat. have it off for buffing.
what you guys think?
i used a different seat pan than the last pic.

also i just scored a brand new headlight on ebay cheap. lookin forward to that.

Re: my cafe/bobber/cafe. bofe racer? build. leaning more towards cafe.lol

Seat don't look bad, but I believe you could get the vinyle a lot tighter over the pan! It would improve the overall look a great deal. Try tacking in one side (small area at a time, like 4 inches) then heat up the vinyle a good bit with a hair dryer. Then pull like hell directly across from where you tacked the first side. After you get it as tight as you possibly can, have a friend (or any one that is willing to help) tack the side your holding. Do this all the way up both sides then do the front by heating the whole front of the seat, pull, and then tack. Then do the same on the back! I made a tool to pull vinyle last time I did it out of two small strips of wood and clamped them to eather side of the end of the vinyle using two vise grip pliers. Worked great! Let me know how you faired if you decide to do it. Oh, and if you go to the fabric store and find someone who is not nice enough to give you a small bit, it is ussually only like $5 to $10 for more than enough.

Cheers

Re: my cafe/bobber/cafe. bofe racer? build. leaning more towards cafe.lol

i agree, had planned to put an extra layer of thin padding to smooth it out a bit and stretch it out more.

Re: my cafe/bobber/cafe. bofe racer? build. leaning more towards cafe.lol

Yeah, I always put a layer or two of batting under the vinyle. really smooths it out nicely. Also one more tip. Start streaching on the sides at the deepest curve in the seat first, that will help it settle in there nice and not loosen up much in the future!

Re: my cafe/bobber/cafe. bofe racer? build. leaning more towards cafe.lol

awsome will do, i really apreciate the tips, they help a ton. haha, no pun intended.lol

Re: my cafe/bobber/cafe. bofe racer? build. leaning more towards cafe.lol

ok, check it out, i heated, and stretched, and heated some more, and stretched some more. my fingers are actualy a bit sore.lol.
its totaly nice and smooth now, the only line-ish stuff you see is the grain of the wanna be leather vinyl.
whatcha guys think?
i might spray it with duplicolor vinyl paint to get a nicer black, ive used it with great results on other stuff.

Re: my cafe/bobber/cafe. bofe racer? build. leaning more towards cafe.lol

Hell yeah, hurley! That seat looks like a pro done it! Good work! I think that really made a HUGE difference! Nice!

Re: my cafe/bobber/cafe. bofe racer? build. leaning more towards cafe.lol

thanks dude, the pointers you gave me helped alot. many thanks for that too homie.

Re: my cafe/bobber/cafe. bofe racer? build. leaning more towards cafe.lol

it finaly came out of the garage, looked alot different out on the street, so i warmed it up, started going adjusting my choke and stuff my my throttle would run smoothe, getting to know its clutch, and a house away from my driveway, a cop shows up, pulls over and starts watching me,and watching, and watching, and o yeah, watching me some more, waiting for me to take off so he could say something, so whatd i do, mess with the choke and throttle, kill the bike, took off my helmet, and started walkin it back to my place, and he took off. lol. what a jerk.

any way, here is a pic of the bike outside, needs a few finishing touches, including new tires, but pretty much what its going to look like,

Re: my cafe/bobber/cafe. bofe racer? build. leaning more towards cafe.lol

Man oh man...so cool! It's nice ot be reminded what a few subtle changes can do for the "Average UJM". Your bike really looks nice man, love just about everything!
I've been wanting to play around with that engine ever since hearing one with 4-4 pipes. Just about hte best exhaust note I've heard from a bike...

Re: my cafe/bobber/cafe. bofe racer? build. leaning more towards cafe.lol

thanks a bunch, i am pretty happy with the results also. cant wait till spring!
i had considered moving the rearsets back to were the passenger pegs were, but idk. i like both positions.
and the more i think about it, the lazier i get lol. shame i know .lol.
but if anyone has ideas, go ahead and share.

Re: my cafe/bobber/cafe. bofe racer? build. Should i run fork gators?

hey guys thinking of maybe adding fork gators, what do you think?im having mixed feelings.
check out the pic of the bike like 2 or 3 posts up

Re: my cafe/bobber/cafe. bofe racer? build. leaning more towards cafe.lol

If your trying to black out everthing, gators are a cheap and easy way! But it looks like you have a good bit of shiny stuff on there so I say rock it with no gators. That bike may not have the stance that it takes to make gators look good!

Re: my cafe/bobber/cafe. bofe racer? build. leaning more towards cafe.lol

ok cool, i think also the travel on the forks is to long still even after lowering for gators, would be long. thats one of the reasons i was debating.

any ideas on getting the rear end up a little bit? ive thought of shocks but havent found any that i like, i think it would look cool with the rear up some more.

Re: my cafe/bobber/cafe. bofe racer? build. leaning more towards cafe.lol

Well it may not make for the best riding movement but you can re-weld the top mounts in a new position!

Re: my cafe/bobber/cafe. bofe racer? build. leaning more towards cafe.lol

hmm, i hadnt thought of that, you think it will affect my drive shaft set up in a bad way?
