My cb750 cafe racer racer is no more

I mentioned track training before. I've heard of several people who've given up riding on the street to varying degrees and now just ride on track days. It's much, much safer there with no obstructions or SUVs, full gear required and plenty of run off room, plus trained medical personnel on site and ready.

Just a thought.

A VERY GOOD thought. I know several guys that only ride track days.

Thats a good idea. Maybe if I can ever walk and ride again like I used to, I will try the track. Here in CT we have Limerock race way, I always intended to try it. -MBS

Well I finally have some images of the gruesomeness you may want to brace yourselves.

Here are the mailboxes I killed..

And the retaining wall that sent me flying, the big white chunk missing is where I hit and flipped. The painted marks on the street by the pole is where I ended up, Still unsure if my pelvis and hip are broken from hitting that pole or not. The bike came to rest on the other side of that pole in the grass /dirt area under the cable.

And here is the damage to the bike...

Its amazing the seat pan didn't sever my leg when it buckled along with the cowl.
The $250 freshly lined tank is totally done...

The front end is toast, speedo is gone, headlight rim is just a hunk of metal, forks are bent, fender was torn off, cables and wiring ripped out, fork ears crushed, handle bars bent etc. I guess thats what happens when you flip 600 pounds into the ground. (Sorry about some of the pic quality, these were taken by my brother with his phone, I have yet to see it in person)

So there you have it guys. PLEASE WEAR YOUR GEAR AND DON'T GET DISTRACTED FOR A MINUTE, As lucky as I am, I would not wish this on my enemies. - MBS

MBS...................

Wanted to let you know that I finally found the site.
Great scar pic's, just wish I was around when you were showing them off on sunday. I was out in the yard or down at the pond with your kids having a great time throwing rocks and getting dizzy spinning around.

To everyone else.............

Just to let you know, MBS is up and about on crutches (hopefully got rid of them this past week).
Wife's grandmother is letting him use one of her canes, actually he picked one of the classy ones.

Will he give up on the bikes, maybe for alittle while, but this guy really has it in the blood. He'll be back.

Thanks, I am recovering well and expect to be riding again next season. Parting out the 750 cafe. But I have plans for my cm400T - we'll see. Hope you are getting some good riding in! -MBS

I'm new to the site and just read the thread. Just wanted to say that I'm really glad you're okay and recovering. I have been through it myself, my friend. When my wife was pregnant with my first born son (8 years ago), I had a head on collision (it the air!) with another motorcycle (this was on a moto-X track, obviously). I woke up on the way to the hospital (the same one my wife was at for an appointment). Yeah...I was in the dog house for a long time. It was over a year before I rode again--not because of injuries, but becauase I felt like a bad father and husband. My wife, of all people, told me to get another bike--she told me that I just wasn't the same person without a bike in the garage. She's right--if you're passionate about something, you have to follow it. We have no control over how we die...only how we live. Good luck and God bless you and your family. (I'll get off my soap box now...sorry)

well shit man.. When I set out to build this bike I told myself that when it was done Id always wear full gear, but as time went on and I got closer my resolve weakened a bit and I figured a quick ride here and there without full gear would be ok. Well your misfortune has snapped me back into the proper mindset, ride with full gear or dont ride at all. So thank you for that, and I hope you have a quick and full recovery.

p.s. I think your idea of rebuilding the bike and going for at least one last ride is a good one. If after that you want to walk away, at least you can walk away with no regrets.

Well I am glad to hear folks are listening. I decided to part her out, and put my time and money into my 400 twin. I plan to caffeinate it over the winter and be riding again next season. I also have my other CR125 that I had just finished building before the accident. So I am no where near giving it up, I'll just be more careful and definitely use the gear. -MBS

Hey thanks for your well wishes. I felt the same way about being all messed up and bed ridden, unable to help my wife and kids and feeling more like a burden. My wife is a saint, she handled everything and took very good care of me without so much as a complaint. I realized how lucky I am to have my family. She also understands that, as much as some people would like me too, I can't just drop my love for motorcycles. She is a horse rider and relates to all this by the fact that if she were injured horse back riding she would still want to ride, she loves it that much. So kudos to the good wives out there.

Now I am going to shop around for some good life insurance and hope I never need it.......LOL.

she's good looking to so bill really has it made. you never did post the pics after our operation on the old girl.

Well there's not many pics to post for breakdown. I only took the one. The whole thing is just a bummer, I just want to move her on as quick as possible :-[
