Re: My First 1974 cb450: Tabasco! *91.5% Complete*
dude i think i have another shifter clamp thing. i have a old set of GSXR rear sets that are torn to hell... if you can use it I will mail it out... bike looks great! i love the black and white!
Re: My First 1974 cb450: Tabasco! *91.5% Complete*
I think that might work! I'll have to remove that little linkage joint though. I already ordered a stock one to modify but I'll check if I can return it. If you have your stock one too, I can mod it as well. I take it most shift levers are universal? How much would you want for them?
Re: My First 1974 cb450: Tabasco! *91.5% Complete*
how much! come on man you can have them! i have to double check to make sure i still have them and they did not get trashed with the old parts... i am sure i do, i never throw anything away that can still be used... ill look tonight for you.

Looking really good bud. Time to hear the kitten roar ;D
If you need a quick lever they sell them at Tractor supply. I think they are replacements for 4 wheelers. I think they are about $10. I'm running one my bike. They are a little long so I cut mine down are rewelded it. I'm sure one would work for what you are going to do with it. Just thought I'd mention it.
Hey Joe, I just realized what a difference you made on those covers. Wow. I didn't realize with just the after photos.

Not much of an update BUT I finished the MSF course today! I had a blast but I only had one our of sleep last night. Pretty sucky! I'll be making an appointment to get my M1 license soon and hopefully when I'll get it, the bike will be up and running. Just a couple things left to do!

Now that I know she runs, I have a bunch of stuff to adjust.
Here's a few issues:
1) I'm going to have to get shorter cables, but I have no idea of a place that still makes cables for these bikes. Anyone have any idea?
2) The shifter is weird. It shifts easily when the engine is off with a little bit of rolling back and forth, but when the engine is on and I shift to first, It slightly jerks forward, and I can't really shift to neutral or second. It could be that the clutch needs adjusting.
3) My headers turned red hot in the middle. I can see it through the wrap that it is glowing red. Does this mean I'm running lean? I'm running pods and I baffled my headers:
So what would be the easiest way to fix this? I think the cheapest might be to re-jet? I need your help!
Re: My First 1974 cb450: Tabasco! *95% Complete* SHE'S ALIVE!!
Sounds like your baffles may be too restrictive, a few holes should open it up. That is why your rpm's climed so slow on the throttle! It needs a little more "breathability" (i am not sure if that is a word but it sounds good to me). You also could still need some jetting work but you will have to free up that exhaust some more before you will know. I bet you will have to adjust some though. I am not good enough with that to offer much advice but I am sure that there are plenty of people on here who can! Good to see you got it going to this point though, you must be really excited by now!
Post your build of those baffles in the thread I made if you can, it will be a great visual aid since I had no pics of the ones I did before! Thanks

Thanks for the reply dude! I think the baffles are fine. I was revving the throttle to hold like that. I'll take another video where I just snap the throttle to make sure there's a difference. I'll post some pictures of my baffles on the thread, but they're ugly .
Re: My First 1974 cb450: Tabasco! *95% Complete* SHE'S ALIVE!!
Congrats! I can't watch it until I get home from work, but I'm sure it sounds great. Hopefully you can get your issues worked out and be riding soon! BTW, mine does a slight little jump fwd when I shift from neutral to first as well. I think the clutch discs are just separating. It is also a little hard for me to find neutral.
Couple things to remember to do before you go riding the first time:
Check tire pressures and drive chain tension.
Set cam chain tension (its easy, just read the manual).
Check lights/signals.
Other things to do soon if you haven't already:
Set valve clearances
Sync Carbs (procedure is on here or hondatwins somewhere)
Re: My First 1974 cb450: Tabasco! *95% Complete* SHE'S ALIVE!!
I just took it for a spin around the block! It was a blast! My wraps were still burning out. I think the pipes got red because I let it idle too long, which I read that it causes the enine to overheat.
Thanks for the link for the cables, I'll be getting new ones in the future. I plan to bump up to 150 main jets though. Anyone know where I can get them? I checked jetsrus but I couldn't find them. I also think my tach is off the rpms seem lower than they should be. I'll have to double check.
