Shocks are only a half inch longer but I'll do the chain soon take pics and see what everyone has to say about it hopefully it doesn't end up like the recent air box, pod, stacks thread!!
if you do as i promoted ,it takes 10 minutes, 20 when drunk ,at most
you will learn something ,by observing exactly what is happening, and you will know the exact amount of slack to have with the 1/2'' longer shocks
nobody can argue, with any validity, that this is not the correct thing to do,with a longer set of shocks

Does it have to be on the center stand for the straight alignment of the cs swinger pivot and read axle? Do I life the rear wheel and place something under it to achieve this alignment?

if you dont have a centerstand put some spools on and get a swingarm stand it will be best-spent money in a long while(besides dem boogersugar whores in jersey ,liverlips, down at the southline, the tracks)
swingarm stand listen up rubber neck swingarm stand
the process is 100 times easiest if you can get the rear wheel off the ground, see
with shocks mounted and stable enough to slap wrenches on, without spilling your tasty beverage, see

1 adjust chain to what you think it should be
2 pull off either end of each shock, bottom is best, and securely lash them up, outta da way,so you swing/lift the wheel up and down whilst spinning the tar.... round and round and NOT have a shock swing out of nowhere and bust yer jaw,see
3 you will observe a spot where the chain is tightest maybe even no slack this is the straight imaganary line intersecting 3 vectors
the chain needs to be adjusted so it is got the minimum slack possoble at the 3 vectors whilst rotating the tar.without being dead tight
often whilst rotating the tar it will go tight loose you can obserrve it
tight while rotating this is simple slightly off center sprockets or a shit chain or sprocket that has uneven wear/stretch
4 once you have observed and adjusted to the minimum optimum observe how much it is with the shocks bolted back on
5 make note of it ,see? write it down take cellfee tough guy,in the situation that you use likely just the bike on the sidestand remember that any travel changes it,fruitcake

Alrighty! I have the center stand I might as well put it back on its a pretty useful thing huh?! Once I find the right spot (brand new chain and sprockets converted to a 520) I adjust it so that its at the minimum clearance but what number am I using for that clearance? The Manual's recommendation for minimum slack?

You speak with Timm? He's looking for SR top end parts? Could use the cash to buy that snake!

You only need to do it one time if you take notes... A learning experience I figger

Spools and stand = better to adjust chain for the weight is on the swinger two fingers shellac

read and reread procedure unseen hashtag 3 part 2 until the comprehension takes over
no yamaha book needed or refered to ,\the procedure to find correct adjustement by simple observation,is the same for any chain drive conventional swingarm mc
"minumum slack possible" can only mean that
this is this,a more pure statement cannot be found

Pureness! While it may appear that lining the rear axle up with the swingarm pivot along with the front sprocket is where the chain will be the "tightest", that's not always true...so listen to the guy with the nekkid redhead in his posts...he speaks the truth

You should have a look at the ratchet wheel on the kick axel. It's a weak spot on these engines. Order a new one from Yamaha, they changed the design of it so that it doesn't break. Had the same issue on my bike.

I checked the one out on there the teeth didn't look rounded or damaged do you have a part number for the new version?

Gonna be heading over tomorrow to torque everything, get my new clutch lever and throttle sorted out, put some grips on, and chain slack!

This is a pic of the updated version. The thing on top is what breaks in the old ones since it's made of two separate pieces instead of one.
