October 2013 XV750 Project ;)

I recommend you use a battery.

::)

Where do you plan to put it? How much do you want to spend?

Im going to put it in the seat pan!

But basically, I was looking at the Lithium batteries. or go old school lead acid, heavy mofo!

I like the smaller size for the seat pan. If I can find something for 100 should be ok.

I was looking at ballistic batteries or shorai.

Ill see what goes on sale ;)

8-cell Lithium battery will turn the starter over - do all your tuning with a regular battery first, as the Lithium battery becomes a doorstop if you discharge it. You'll also want to upgrade your rectifier/regulator to a modern unit and make sure the whole charging system is until top shape.

Motydesign.com makes a great battery.

OK quick update.

Was examining the wiring and fixed a couple points such as the side kickstand wires that were cut and left to hang.
Also the clutch wire where it enters the clutch handle is broken so need one of those!

My brother brought over a nice battery, and we jumped the bike and she has spark! So thats a good thing.

Just need to get those carbs rebuilt and put back on. Should be any day now!

I will definatly need to look at some videos on how exactly to rebuild the carb and make sure I have the jets in the right place and adjusted properly.

Looking forward to that day!

This is not dead thread ;)

Was waiting on a carb rebuild kit.... they came in... wrong ones.... Didnt match the picture..

So... today with the help of another Virago Tech forum Member... I bought some carbs..... Yeap now I have 2 sets.

Props to All2kool

Thanks man!

But the point being I want this beast to roar! Well at least say Hi, to my neighbors....

Got my wiring figured, got part flying across the globe, things are just taking there sweet time right now sooooo,,,,,, am I.

Should have the tank welded by Monday. Then I can start working on the cafe seat. That will be a hoot, probably cost me more to make it than to buy a new one.
plus I might screw it all up and have to buy a new one anyways.... But do you think that will stop me... HELLLLL NO!

Got my insulation and fiberglass. Need to put my cut outs and ideas together...... when I get my tank so I can figure the angle of the dangle of my rearsub frame.

Ill take pics. of it all.

The kickstand switch is a common failure point - you can cut the wire directly at the harness to the TCI and cover the end.

Yea, it was originally cut, Not sure what the guy was going for, but what ever they did, they couldnt figure it out so the bike sat for 5 years.

So hopefully, when I get the proper carbs on it, .... She will boot up, so we can fine tune her!

One step at a time, also on another note my tank should be done on Monday and my fabricator/welder guy is coming over on Tuesday, so hopefully we will start moving along in a more positive direction regarding the overall look and feel.

Also I was looking at an acewell speedo tach, but SNAP they are pricey. Looking at 250-450 for different variations.

Any suggestions?

i have used the dan moto digital cock pit on a few bikes and it works well

i have this one on my 650 and like it its a bit bright at night but i can live with it

good price good function

I was looking at that one as well. I wasnt sure if I wanted all digital.

I take it there is only one brightness setting on it as well.

Acewell looks good, but the price is a little steep and not available in Canada

Got my tank finally. Looks good.

Just went to look at a Viragao, so these threads are more and more interesting. Good luck withthat carb issue, had a previous owner replaced the stock carbs?

Its difficult to say what the history of the bike is. But I guess thats what you get for $500.

But more than the money, is the fun in learning and also meeting new people that love Bikes, and enjoy sharing there informaiton.

I may not make the ultimate bike, but for me and my son the process is the fun! and when its all said and done! the story is 99%.

Of course riding it will it awesome as well .

Do share your threads and pics of your bike! Its always fun to see how the projects evolve.

Peace

Oh one more Amazing thing came in....

I got my clutch Switch for $10 ..... yeeeeeeeeehhaaaaaaaaa!

lol. Its on and waiting to be used.

Good news, found a local guy to weld the tank for me...... Thats one step closer.

I just need to figure out the best idea for a subframe. Wondering if I should go from scratch or try and rework the orginal sub frame that came with the bike.

I did grind off the lower part of the sub frame already.! Suppose I can post that!

Ubergeez

I found the original sub frame not to be overly useful.

Ok good news, I just received my Carbs I bought from a fellow forum member. Thanks man.

I tore them apart and cleaned them up, as well as rebuilt them. Now they are on the bike.

I need to figure everything out now, and see if I can fire it up.... Thats great.

Little nervous. Dont know why, but cross my fingers, and me and my son can hear the frankenbike come to life!

Couldnt get it up and running yet. Although I did start a little fire. Got spark, and the pipes were a little loose, and caught the gas on the engine on fire... That was interesting. Anyways we need all the heat we can get here in Canada. Its been one friggin cold winter.

Ahhh but the hot tub is even better though when its freezing out!

I think I may need to change my carb boots to the engine. I think they are causing the problem.

Ya been a shitty winter here. My carb boots were worn too, made mini flames.
