The Amal carbs on our Bultacos leak like none other and we found a boot on one carb over the carb for the first time. We are learning about pulling a vacuum on the two stroke to check for leaks. Do you have the black spacer between your carbs and your head?

Yes! Check..

Is there a vaccuum port on these carbs to hook a gauge up to? The sync is accomplished by adjusting the cable top screws. I've done the popsicle stick method before, but the right carb is WAY loud compared to the left.

i dont think there is you could always drill and tap a port
cable pull synch is by the popstick method if you have problem at idle that is a seperate issue it means yer idle speed screws are off synch.... DON"T FUCK with the cable adjusters once you do the throttle pull synch with sticks it has nothing to do with idle synch

Ok ok makes sense.

A little late but a number 2 or 3 square/Robinson wood screw fits the tappit head
So you can make an adjuster for cents

Re: "Patina" The 1973 CB175 Cafe Racer

I checked my timing again. I'm falling between the full advance marks at 4-5k, but at 2500 rpms or anything lower the pointer falls between te fills advance hashes and the F mark on the stator. Is it normal for the pointer to not fall between the hash marks at low revs?

Re: "Patina" The 1973 CB175 Cafe Racer

I also got some filters for my intake setup. There is a velocity stack under there.

it doesnt matter as long as it idles ok the advancer can wear a bit, plus it is a dynamic piece of mechanical motion and what with mfg tolerances and whatnot it is a lot to expect it to fall on both spots
full advance is all that matters ,the other position is just a retard for starting and a smooth idle

Thanks XB. Well valves are set, timing is set. Tomorrow I'm going to shoot to carb troubleshoot a bit getting the idle air screws synced.

SUCCESS! We are officially back to where we started. I'm not sure what I did, but I think the filters helped.

Ok so we have power at all RPMs, feels like maybe it's a little too advanced but good for now.

Ok so here is the good:

Bike will idle (albeit very high)
Is responsive right off throttle
Will pull to high revs
Will return to high idle when stopped (albeit slowly).

Here's the bad:
Idle is very high when warm (like 3200 rpm)
Bike is slow to return to idle (like when I pull the clutch in any gear)

Sounds maybe like an air leak or an imbalance so I'll start there.

Overall I'm happy she's back on the road!

are you sure the advance is free and has some spring tension to close it ?

I'm not sure what you mean? It's an electronic ignition so I adjust advance at the cam rotating the "pickup" plate.
