Pjkf: Two-Up CL350 Cafe "Variant" (Completed Photos)

Re: Project Variant: PjkF's first cl350 build

Looks great man! Did you use rubber undercoating on the tank too?!

Re: Project Variant: PjkF's first cl350 build

Haha! Absolutely not! I used a Gunmetal metallic rim paint. It's a really durable finish, and I am pleased with the results. I still need to buff it out, but it went on pretty smoothly. The pictures don't do it justice.

Here's another quick update.

Re: Pjkf: Two-Up CL350 Cafe "Variant"

Yeah man! Lookin SWEET! Got a video of it running?

Re: Pjkf: Two-Up CL350 Cafe "Variant"

Thanks Fox! I still have some wiring and such to work on, but she will be running SOON...

Here are some HQ shots:

Re: Pjkf: Two-Up CL350 Cafe "Variant"

Oh man. That looks so good! I love the raw engine. Looks slick.

Is that last shot HDR? Looks incredible! Added that to my Motorcycle screen saver.

Re: Pjkf: Two-Up CL350 Cafe "Variant"

Thanks, I hope to have it all polished up soon. (Might even do the black with polished fins later on.)

Progress is slow, I hate doing wiring.
I am starting from scratch tonight and working it all in. What a pain.

And the last picture isn't an HDR, but it is a highly edited RAW image. I brought the contrast way up to give it that gritty feel.

Re: Pjkf: Two-Up CL350 Cafe "Variant"

It's finally done! I just need a momentary switch for the starter and a led flasher relay.
I have never rewired anything before this, what a great feeling of accomplishment!

Re: Pjkf: Two-Up CL350 Cafe "Variant"

The wiring is almost done. (had to gut the thing and start from scratch) The starter button is the only thing left for that. The tires are going to be here Monday, and my race foam is on the way as well. (for the seat) Things need to hurry up and get here already.

Re: Pjkf: Two-Up CL350 Cafe "Variant"

Wow, coming right along! Nice job so far! Definitely diggin' the colors. Seat looks cool too.

Re: Pjkf: Two-Up CL350 Cafe "Variant"

Love the seat design! The colour scheme fits the bike as well. Are you planning on mounting the passenger pegs to the swing-arm? I used the passenger peg mounts to mount my rear-sets as well so looking for another location/method for the passenger pegs.

Re: Pjkf: Two-Up CL350 Cafe "Variant"

Dude. That thing is BALLIN! Congratulations on getting it done. Looks great. More picture inspiration for those of us still wrenching away wouldn't go unappreciated...

Thanks! The color is a bit lighter than I expected it to be, but I think the decals make it pop.

The seat is really what I am most proud of, I had a good time designing it and making it. Thanks, I was trying to eliminate the color from the bike and keep things simple... I had planned on mounting them on the swingarm by the base of the shocks, but I still feel a little funny about mounting them there, I would rather mount them to the frame then a moving element.
That said, I am going to make a couple of drop bars from where the bolts go into the frame for the rear fender and attach pegs to the bottom of that drop bar. It sounds confusing, so I'll do a photo edit to show where I am going to put them.

Thanks! A few little things here and there to go, but as you know, these projects are never done! Ha! And pictures will continue to come your way. I love to show off anything that I have worked on...

Re: Pjkf: Two-Up CL350 Cafe "Variant"

The final parts are in. It's going to be running by the weekend.

Re: Pjkf: Two-Up CL350 Cafe "Variant"

Running AND Rideable?

Re: Pjkf: Two-Up CL350 Cafe "Variant"

Good News:
The bike starts and runs and the exterior modifications are done. No more fiddling with how it's going to look.

Bad News:
After the bike had been running for a bit, I checked the pipes, and the left side was still cold. I checked the compression again and I was only getting a reading of 30psi. Poured some oil in the cylinder and did the test again and got 90psi. Looks like I'll be tearing it apart for rings at least, if not new pistons and rings with a cylinder bore.

So stinky... I wanted to finally ride this thing!

That last bit is ALWAYS what gets ya...

Sad to hear, best of luck!

Re: Pjkf: Two-Up CL350 Cafe "Variant"

I soda-blasted the engine last evening and am impressed with the results.
I didn't like the mess it made, but It's fresh and ready for a nice coat of black when the internals are worked out.
