Pjkf: Two-Up CL350 Cafe "Variant" (Completed Photos)

Re: Pjkf: Two-Up CL350 Cafe "Variant"

Nice build you got going there, sucks the engine needs a top end. So is that a shared shop ? In your last pic it looks like the CB350 I sold to a guy a couple weeks ago ! :)

Re: Pjkf: Two-Up CL350 Cafe "Variant"

Yup, it's a shared shop with a guy from work. It's actually suddenlycalm from here on DTT. I don't think that the CB is the same one, he's had that thing since last fall. I hope whomever bought it from you is either fixing it up nice or using it as a worthy donor bike!

I'm cracking open the engine today to see what I absolutely need... I'm hoping that I don't have to have the cylinder walls re-honed.

Re: Pjkf: Two-Up CL350 Cafe "Variant" (Engine Teardown Pictures)

This is my first time getting into the guts of a bike motor in any way.

The compression question has been answered.

Loving the high quality pictures! Man, we've only got 10cc seperating our bikes, but boy those guts look different!

Re: Pjkf: Two-Up CL350 Cafe "Variant" (Engine Teardown Pictures)

I've never seen the insides of a 360, but I'll take your word for it!

I dropped off the head and jugs at the machine shop yesterday, and am waiting for my pistons to come in so they can get to work cutting the cylinders to the size of the pistons. ( .5mm over ) I'm really itching to ride this thing!

Re: Pjkf: Two-Up CL350 Cafe "Variant" (Engine Teardown Pictures)

New pistons to go with the cylinder re-hone.

Re: Pjkf: Two-Up CL350 Cafe "Variant" (Engine Teardown Pictures)

Wait a minute. Should pistons be flat/smooth? Mine were definitely pretty rough. Looked like sandpaper, just zoomed in a bunch.

Those look great by the way. looking forward to seeing it all together.

Re: Pjkf: Two-Up CL350 Cafe "Variant" (Engine Teardown Pictures)

New pistons should look that way. I'm not sure at what the limit is for piston wear, but I had to get these to go up a size on the cylinders. I may have just cleaned off the old pistons if all I had to do was replace rings.

The cylinders should be done tomorrow, so assembly should start pretty soon. Engine will be satin black to better go with the look of the bike.

Re: Pjkf: Two-Up CL350 Cafe "Variant" (Engine Teardown Pictures)

Finally got the cylinders back yesterday, It's mostly together now. The pistons slipped right in, my were they gorgeous. No time for pictures, I was messy and in a little bit of a hurry.

Cleaning and painting is scheduled for tonight.

Re: Pjkf: Two-Up CL350 Cafe "Variant" (Engine Teardown Pictures)

Thank you, thank you. It felt like forever, but it is my first bike & thus first project bike...

I should be able to be more patient on the next one

Re: Pjkf: Two-Up CL350 Cafe "Variant" (Engine Teardown Pictures)

Congratulations. Looks great!

Re: Pjkf: Two-Up CL350 Cafe "Variant" (Engine Teardown Pictures)

Who started his bike today and noticed that his right side spark plug was loose?! This guy. Freaking gonna have to tear it apart again and get a fix kit for the threads.

Re: Pjkf: Two-Up CL350 Cafe "Variant" (Engine Teardown Pictures)

Seriously?! Dude. That sucks! You sure you have to tear it all the way down again?

Re: Pjkf: Two-Up CL350 Cafe "Variant" (Engine Teardown Pictures)

Gotta get it outta the frame and take the head off to tap out the old threads and put inserts in. I am gonna do both sides. hey it's gonna be out, and I don't want to have to do it to the other side when it goobers up. The inserts are steel, so it should be good for the rest of the time I have the bike. It's just a royal pain in the buttocks. Gonna spend all day on it tomorrow though. Should be riding it soon enough. ;)

Alright, spent all day on it on Saturday, and a buddy worked on the carbs on Sunday.

She's all buttoned up and a few little adjustments will need to be made, but she is done! (and works properly!) :D
