Project 387XJ (1974 CB360) Update: New paint!

Re: Project 387XJ (1974 CB360)

They look close to the same. Maybe one is a replacement one. The bikes are only a month apart. I will post pics later.

Re: Project 387XJ (1974 CB360)

Honda used 3 different manufacturers for points/advancers.
More likely, someone fitted a CB350 or 450 unit?
Post a pic of the two different styles, maybe a 350/450 owner can tell?
Just about every 360 I've seen has a Denso unit

Re: Project 387XJ (1974 CB360)

ND goes to full advance earlier although there really isn't much difference as the TEC has slightly lighter springs to compensate for lighter bobweights

Re: Project 387XJ (1974 CB360)

Thanks PJ for the reply, I am still unsure what one to use but at least I know a little about the units.

Re: Project 387XJ (1974 CB360)

Quick update:

Have been busy moving this weekend so not a lot of work has been done on the bike. I did however get my NOS timing chain adjuster guide and my used timing chain slider. I will be giving my slider to my friend and he will try to make something to replace it. I will post what he comes up with.

Im thinking about wrapping my rear fairing with leather and making a separate leather seat for it. I think it would look good.

Re: Project 387XJ (1974 CB360)

The CB seams to be coming along good man. Hope i can get something put together and ride with you in the spring. i guess i could always rid the CBR if its not sold by then.

Re: Project 387XJ (1974 CB360)

Any progress? I may hit you up this weekend if I get a chance to get back to that side of town. Hoping to get a little work done on my bikes.

Re: Project 387XJ (1974 CB360)

trying to get back in it, need to work on the seat and tank. Slacking on the wheels, not sure what route to go with those. It's getting pretty nice out, I should probably get the Suzuki out and brush the dust off it. Let me know if you get in town!

Re: Project 387XJ (1974 CB360)

Just a list of what I need to get done

Wheels
decide on spokes
decide on tires
assemble wheels

Frame
install steering bearings
assemble front
finish seat
fix tank

rear end
paint rear swingarm
get shocks
new chain & sprockets

I'm pretty sure thats not all either

Re: Project 387XJ (1974 CB360)

any new pictures for us. I would love to see more progress

Re: Project 387XJ (1974 CB360)

Sorry, I had a friend come in from Chicago so most of my time went to entertaining him. However I did make some more progress on the wheels.

Last weekend I boiled the front and rear hubs in lemon juice for 30min to clean the dirt and crud off of them. Then hit them with some ultra fine sandpaper to bring back that factory shine. I really don't enjoy doing cosmetic stuff on bikes or cars. So this is the most stressful part of the build for me. Which is also why I do not have a finished seat, or tank.

Anyway, boiling in lemon juice.

All clean after being in there for 30min.

Then I laced up my wheels to the hubs. This was easier than I thought. There is a pretty good tutorial on youtube showing how to do that. Then took them to get trued.

I got my Avon Roadriders in the mail friday. I'm still waiting on the tubes to arrive. Once I get these wheels all set then I can start putting the bike back together.

The engine is already in the garage waiting for me to bring the rest of the bike up from the basement.

Still have a few things to buy.

Re: Project 387XJ (1974 CB360) Update:Tires mounted!

I spent some time yesterday and installed my tires. They didn't give me too much trouble. Now I need to balance them.
IMG_7552.jpg

I also disassembled my forks. I'm going to replace the fork seals and replace the dust boots.

Re: Project 387XJ (1974 CB360) Update:Tires mounted!

Good lookin tires! I haven't decided which tires will be going on my bike yet.

Need more details on that billet upper triple tree please!

Re: Project 387XJ (1974 CB360) Update:Tires mounted!

Thats for the comments!

Well started to put together all of the parts I could. So basically the rear swing arm.
