Re: Project Gretta....something's in the water....

simple, yet affective! great job on that system kiley! soooperrr trick.

Re: Project Gretta....something's in the water....

Having installed a few electronic ignition conversion, but never scratch built before I'm impressed Kiley!
You're a beast mate!

Re: Project Gretta....something's in the water....

I just want to say that i heard about this in PA BEFORE i saw it online. That's when you know you're making something nucking futs.

Sweet work Kiley!!

Re: Project Gretta....something's in the water....

you do realize this is the most popular build thread on DTT by nearly 300 posts, and third in terms of views? beat only by tims XS... and, for whatever reason, lunars sr250... (not putting his bike down, just only 25 pages.. compared to your 125...

Re: Project Gretta....something's in the water....

we need a budweiser "real men of genius" song for you kiley!! ;D

Re: Project Gretta....something's in the water....

So, all systems are go. Finished reluctor number 3 today for the CDI. The main reason for changing so much is because I wanted something that was easy to duplicate, and would require no modifications to the stock advance. So I found some tubing that almost fit over the stock advance (where the lobes hit the points to open and close them). I used a dremel to oblong the inside of the tubing to press fit onto the stock advance. I then redid the points plate where the hall effect sensors mounted to make the sensors bolt on to allow some adjustability. Generation one was welded in place which worked, but I wanted a fully adjustable system to allow me to mess with the reluctor gap for maximum spark. It all bolts down with a longer allen head bolt to the cam, and works perfectly. Fired first kick with no choke. Beautiful. No more points, no more misfire, and it's using a 70,000 volt ignition module, and let me tell you, she fires a HUGE spark at the plugs. These things are ACCEL modules designed to run a high performance v8 so you can imagine what they do for my little lump!!! I wired in the ignition modules into their own case to prevent moisture, and added a cooling fan to the case to keep them happy. It all is wired into a male/ female prong connector so I can remove the modules, or the reluctor plate whenever I need without having to mess with the main harness. I am very happy with this project.

I also wanted to be able to monitor the voltage of my system since I'm running the electric oil pump and the new ignition modules. Also, I wanted a nice heads up gauge to be able to monitor the entire system's oil temperature post oil cooler. So I snagged a couple of small gauges and built a new bracket for them that bolts to the factory gauge brackets. I have to wire the gauges in, and then she should be ready to go. It has been a good two days.

Here are some pictures:

Hall effect sensors mounted, and timing set...for good!

All clips soldered and heat shrinked. 4 pin coming from the sensors, 8 prong coming from the ignition module.

Ignition modules mounted in case and cooling fan operational. Perfecto.

Gauge bracket cut, welded, speed holed, and painted. The big center hole will house the switch for the oil pump. There will also be an LED indicator to show when it is on and running, because god knows you can't hear it when Gretta is running!!!

And mounted on the bike for mock up.

She's coming along. She'll be finished for Barbers so I can scare all of the children there. Can't wait.

Next thing in the works is a fuel injection system that will work on any Mikuni powered bike....I'll save the details, but know this....prototype number one is operational on our SR500 bench test motor. It's not 100% yet, but it's working....just some tweaking to do! You guys know I can't leave well enough alone!!!!

Re: Project Gretta....something's in the water....

god damn, kiley, your NOT allowed to make gretta cooler. you asshole. just making us all look bad. :D

Re: Project Gretta....something's in the water....

fantastic work little brother. What a sweet project. I knew about everything but the gauges was a pleasant surprise. They are the icing on the cake. Blown away man. Just blown away!

Re: Project Gretta....something's in the water....

I actually puked a little bit in my mouth reading that, I am so impressed. Thats never happened before. Seriously, it nausatingly awesome. You my friend are a cut above. How easy is it to modify for other models? Saaaaayyyyy, a CB350?? I cant wait to see the fuel injection.....

bob.

Re: Project Gretta....something's in the water....

Glad to hear it worked out brother, sorry no reply to your text but I did not read it until about 3 hours after you sent it!

Oh, and I have an authentic creek backwoods steeled mason jar of white lightning for all those yanks to have a sip at barber!

Re: Project Gretta....something's in the water....
