Looking good!! Hey quick question, I tried flipping back through all of the pages, but I didn't find it. What tires/ sizes are you running? Avon Road Riders?? Could you measure the rear for me....please?!? Overall OD with the tire on? Thanks a bunch man, I really like the way those look on there and I would love to see them on my bike.
I prefer the metric hands unit...place one hand next to the other until you reach the OD...haha just kidding, inches would be great! I just need to make sure that I didn't make my swingarm too short :/ and that a tire will actually fit in to it mounted on the rim. Thanks for the help man, and I just need the overall OD of the rear tire, thanks!!!
Progress in the past few weeks: Spent 2 weeks chasing an electrical gremlin. It turned out to be a corroded wire that was about 4 in long. So, all the wiring is working correctly and mostly hidden. Since the wiring is now pretty much done, I mounted the headlight/trim ring. Also, put the starter delete in. I dropped the exhaust to do it and haven't mounted it back up yet. Also got the carbs/filters mounted up
Things to do: Install new oil pump (need the lock nut wrench), mount the caliper, mount switches, cut handlebars down, brake line/sensor, clutch cable, throttle cables, fuel lines, license plate mount and do a final mount for the rear sets. Oh, and start it :-D
POLL: Should I keep the handlebars chrome or black them out?
I am voting black too, so I got to thinking and looking at the head on pic you posted. I know you had some concern about the width of the bars, and since you may be painting them black, this opens an opportunity for you to narrow them some. Like everyone you most likely could take 3/4 to an inch off each end, but also you could take an inch to an inch and a half out of the center and weld them back up. Would not be too difficult and may help you get the look you are after as well as provide you that little extra custom factor.
That looks AWESOME, 66! I never thought I'd recommend black bars, but considering the black trim everywhere else, black bars would really complete it. Love that green/black. Sharp, just plain sharp as tacks.
never posted on here but looks great man. i think black would look good but to have an alternate opinion you have black/chrome contrasting on the forks/shocks so your black grips on the chrome would match up.
Here's what I did tonight. I have some more time to work tomorrow.
Finally got a good mount together for the rear sets. I *think* they're going black too.
Unfortunately I can't finish the brake side because the stock lever is notched (see pic). In order to get the brake linkage right I need to mount the stock lever upside down so I need to borrow a small file from a buddy to notch the opposite side.
I started on the license plate mount. Got the basic shape with my dremel. Still needs to be sanded smooth and painted black.
How thick of metal did you make that license plate mount out of? I made one similar and and it bounces around like crazy. Think I need to add some braces to the back.
Than again mine had a tailight on it... yours doesnt
Rear set looks great too. Can't want to see your riding stance on this.
on that plate bracket be sure you weld in a cross brace to support it. i have seen tons and tons like that vibrate and break off so many times, exp that thin of metal!
