I used to play but it wasn't inspired by that.

Ha, maybe subconciously you were though :) I mean....360 (xbox 360) Spartan, the color. I'm still a HALO fan, no shame. Matter of fact, one of my favorite evening pass times. Love the color of your bike BTW.

Our builds are quite similar! I like what you have done with the tank, I am taking a more "expansive" route. But I am also using a battery similar to this! I bought a Dewalt 28 volt battery pack off eBay for $50 and tore the 8 little A123 batteries out of it. I will have to solder them up and shrink wrap them, but I think will be just the same and cost a good deal less, and I will have a spare if I need it. Pulling the electric start off of mine too :) awesome work by the way! I kept looking back to your pictures for insight on how to mount my tank. Can't wait to see yours done!

Any idea how you're supposed to solder them for the correct output?

What do you mean by correct output? 12V? Each of those little batteries puts out 3.3 volts. You just have to solder them in series (+ to - to + to - +...) to get 13.2 volts, a little more than a standard 12 volt battery, but your system won't know the difference. The typical charging system puts out closer to 13 volts anyways. There are plenty of resources online for how to make them too. Lots of RC airplane guys are using them. Here is a super detailed write up:

http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=599316

And another:

I opted for the 28V pack because it had only 8 cells, not 10. If I were to make an 8 cell pack or 2 - 4 cell packs, I didn't want to have to pay for left over or spare batteries.

Hope that helps.

Gotcha. I may make one more...we'll see how it runs with one.

Haha, my dad saw a picture and said it reminded him of an XBOX.

Throw the word "Microsoft" on there somewhere and the bike will pay you for the rest of your life :D! If only getting sponsors were that easy...

Hahaha, maybe I'll print it on vinyl and send 'em a picture. ;)

You'll have Bill Gates as a best friend, LOL.

Re: CB360: Spartan UPDATED: We have a roller

Quick update: Things have slowed a bit because I started back to school (final semester, 15+ hours). But, I've been working through the wiring, I'd say it's 70% done. VonYinzer hooked me up with some new carbs because the ones I was starting to rebuild were completely shot. Basically I need to do the following:

Cut a handlebar switch
Drill bars
Shorten bars
Powdercoat bars/headlight trim ring
Get caliper piston unseized and rebuild
Finish my taillights
Have a friend weld two small pieces for my rear set mount
Mount rear sets
Finish wiring
Make a license plate holder
Install new oil pump

Also, for some reason my transmission no longer shifts. Something happened between the rebuild and now. I'll fix it while I'm putting in the new oil pump. Hopefully it's something stupid.

Good news! The bike has an official beverage.

long time no update. what's up?

She's coming slowly but surely. A combination of 16 hours of Computer Science courses plus some unusually cold weather has slowed me down a bit. I finished the taillights the other day, need to finish my switches, wires the switches, cut my handlebars, figure out why my tranny stopped shifting, install the oil pump and then start her up! Planning to work all day Saturday...hopefully should be running soon!

Re: CB360: Spartan UPDATED: We have a roller

I am sure you have tried this... but I can't not say it just in case.

When my tranny wasn't shifting, all I had to do was roll the bike forward about 12" and it shifted. Apparently this is common in bikes so you probably know that. But just in case you don't, could save you a lot of trouble.

THIS BIKE IS GOING TO LOOK GREAT!
Thanks for helping me visualize, I have been wanting to do a bunch of BLACK but wasn't sure. I love what you've done and it has solidified my commitment.

Re: CB360: Spartan UPDATED: We have a roller

Did a bit of work lately. First I modified these lights from eBay to mount off my shock bolts.

CafeMatty came over and helped me hook up the wiring harness. Everything is hooked up but I've got a bit of troubleshooting to do (suspecting a bad ground).

I finally got the piston out of the caliper. The old grease gun trick did it!

I need to get the grease cleaned out of the caliper. Waiting on my brake lines and I'll push a bit of brake cleaner through the line.

Here's the piston. It had a couple small pits on one side. I think it's OK. Look OK to you?

Painted a few things: switches, headlight trim ring, tops of carbs.

Happy with my spray paint finish:

Here's a pic of the old grips versus the new ones. Hah!

Re: CB360: Spartan UPDATED: We have a roller

Quality work as usual my man. I'd run with that piston personally, but you could print the whole of my mechanical knowledge on a bar room matchbook and still have room for all the chicks numbers this bike could get you.

Re: CB360: Spartan UPDATED: We have a roller

Thanks, man. I also forgot to mention that CafeMatty and I figured out why the transmission wasn't shifting. If the sprocket cover is off the gear change rod can get pushed in slightly which disengages the shifting linkage on the other side. Moral of the story, if your sprocket cover is off, pull the rod the lever attaches to towards you and try again.
