RALEIGH NC DTT'rs

Getting transferred to Cary , so I am really interested in a group also - one a little more open to all makes, models, and personalities. We have a new group in Charlotte called the Queen City Aces that is creative, non-selective, and very welcoming. I'd like to see something about riding, wrenching, creativity, and hanging out. We have a monthly cafe night going at a local club here is Charlotte now, and it is a blast.

Hey Eddie,
Just finally looked up that link you sent about the booster valves. I may be wrong, but I dont think that will do much for you but soak your filters. You need to give the oil a chance to seperate from the blow by air, condensing on something, and allow it to run back into the engine itself. The only real way to do that is to use a breather and have the hose running up to it so the condensed oil runs back into the engine instead of out on the ground or your filters. I have stuff to make one that should work. If I could give you a hand with it let me know. Good luck and am looking forward to the next time we all get together!

Here are the only 2 photos I took. Finally had a chance to post them... :p

That sounds like a plan Joe, thanks for your willingness to help out. I will get a hold of you as soon as I get back to NC. I', in Colorado right now and missing my bikes. The weather is pefect right now and everyone is out riding. :(

So far the hoses with those contraptions seem to be working, but yes they do spray a bit on my filters, but not too much just barely, nothing like what you saw on our ride to VA. But I have only ran it like that for a few miles, so once I get back, I iwll take it for a 100 mile run to see how it does. I definetly want to see what you can com e up with. I like your isea better.

Thanks for posting the photos of the trip.

Tbird, I think we may be on to something here, getting some regulars in the area to ride out. As soon as you get settled, let me know and we'll all get together.

Hey guys,

How about a meeting at my workshop in Raleigh for some refreshments (my treat) one evening or Saturday afternoon. We can talk some cafe stuff and get to know each other better and also plan some rides and meetings.

I always have some "eye candy" in the workshop (ask Xulf13) that will interest any gearhead.

This is a picture of my last built for a guy in SC.

Joe, he is near my job, well 15 min from my job. Johann is right off 70 a couple miles east of the I-540 exit. right after Triangle dr. of Marvino Ln.

Johann, what day is good for you? I have visitors from out of town this whole weekend, but maybe next weekend or friday I could stop after work.

xulf13,

Just give me a call. I'll be in the shop the whole of next week. I have 3 GT40's in the shop that need to go out.
I started on a CB750 Cafe with nice suspension this week, I think that you ould like it.

We need to get more "cafe racer" guys involved to get this thing off the ground. I am also willing to help on Saturdays if anyone needs help with a cafe project.

I am also looking at building a cafe frame for the Honda CB750 SOHC motors.

OK - looking like August time frame for me to get situated. I'll stay in touch.

Looks like your shop is not far from my work place, so it should be simple for me to roll by after work...

It looks like I might wind up in the area the first week in August.

Hey guys, Ill also be around, and my bike finally runs and is "done" for the time being. As soon as I can get my title situation worked out, Ill be eager to join you all :)

Scott, We're looking forward to your move. We're going to try to get together in about 2 weeks or so.

Amturdev. Post some photos of your bike. I know NC can be a pain about tittles. I hope it all workds out for you and your bike.

Thats how she sits right now. Kind of looking for an exhaust if the right deal comes up. (id like to have a muffler/baffle)
The tape on the fender is where im planning on cutting it.

Aaron

Greetings my fellow Raleigh DTT-ers! My name is Jon, I'm good friends with Aaron ^

Once he got his CB550 project rolling, I too was bitten by the bike bug and found a great deal on a 1978 Kawasaki KZ 650C2. After some coaxing, she's finally running as meant to. Unfortunately, like Aaron, I'm having titling troubles as well. I bought it from a guy here in Raleigh, but he had just moved down here from NY and misplaced the title. It was last registered to his brother, who never transferred the title to him, so he will have to apply for a new one in New York (where the bike was last titled). Now that everything's up and running, I'm eager to get legal and riding!

As far as the bike goes, most of the work so far has been just to get everything running correctly. So far, I've been through the carbs thoroughly, bench synched them, added in line fuel filter, replaced the boots, had to get a new reg/rec because my old one had an internal short that kept draining the battery (doh!), a new battery as a result of the mischievous reg/rec, cleaned up the points/ignition, and added new spark plugs.

Cosmetically, the only thing I've done is clubman bars and removed the "duck bill" rear piece. I'm planning on getting rid of the gigantic king/queen seat, and hopefully making my own out of fiberglass. I'd also like to remove the rear fender and get a more compact rear brake/turn signal package.

Anyway, enough talk, here's a picture I snapped with my phone this afternoon after a little bit of scrubbing with some Simple Green

That's awsome guys,
Jon and Aaron, you're bikes have lots of potential. NC is very finicky about tittles. I hope you two can get those issues sorted out soon.

Between my buddy Jake who plans on building a CB750, myself, Johann, Joe, Dean, and you two. Well it makes a nice group to get together with.

Jon, I think all your exhaust needs is a little sanding and high temp paint.

Can't wait to meet you guys.

Eddie

Yeah, the exhaust is definitely on the list of things to take care of. On that note, does anyone have a belt sander that I'd be able to come over and use to sand all the crud off with? Being a college student, I don't really have that many power tools at my disposal.

I think it'd be a great idea to all meet up, definitely before the summer is over. Not to mention I'd love to get out to Johann's shop to check out all his toys! I'm out of town from this Sunday until late next Saturday, but could probably do any weekend for the rest of the summer.

You don't really want to use a belt sander, you need to have someone sandblast that stuff off. I'd blast them, and then use a high temp black paint to refinish.

That other CB550 thats cut out of the picture is my roommates project. Ill try to get him to post in here too. Well have a good size group going here once all the bikes actually make it to the road ;D

Well guys,
I hope you have your bikes ready forthis upcoming event. No excuses now. 2 months to go. get the titles or sell the bikes LOL ;D
