Sakura the Sake Rocket

Thanks Joey, it's coming along....just slowly.
I will have some pics to fling up this evening though so check back.....

I've used their stuff before, as long as it suits what you're doing you won't be disappointed. In my case, there's a lot of actual brass on this thing and trying to get anodized parts to match would impossible. As it is, I'm only using the caps on a few of them, the rest either have brass washers or nothing. Plus they're kinda spendy, thus far I've horse traded and finagled most everything I've hung on this beast that I didn't make myself. In truth, I'm only into this one for a hair under $100 thus far. Miss Kitty dropped the biggest wad on the fresh alloy rims and stainless spokes, I believe it was right around $400....

Nice work brother, the bike is off to a great start. I'll be folowing the progress from now on. I pick up great inspiraion form you boys.
Now I just need theis stupid broken foot to heal n i'll get back to work on mine.
Cheers
Dennis

Thanks man!
My time has not been my own lately so I had much to spend on the bike but I do have some updates hopefully for this afternoon....

Holy Crap! An update!??!

Ok so things have been pretty choppy round the shop these last few weeks, ODB's health is further on the decline and that's making for some unforeseen "hijinks". Still, I've been able to steal a few minutes here and there between that and customer projects for a little "sanity work".

As in....working on my own project helps save my sanity......me act less crazy.
(it's just an act....)

Here's a few pics for giggles but as usual, go to the blog for the full meal deal.

Alright you savages, time for more......

I've been stalled on several mods I have in the works but all came together yesterday and so I stole some more time for myself and whipped this stuff out.

Got the motor plates from the last installment milled up nice and blasted as well as another key for me....tank shifter! Take a look, head over to the blog for more indepth info but please whatever you do, let me know what you think. Comment on the blog or here, that'd be great.

As always, the bulk of the pics and info is on the blog:

hell ya that is awesome!!!! i would cut down the lever a touch so or shorten the throw that the clutch lever has but man, love the arm! looks wicked... i really really dig how all the cases and mounts all match! you still thinking those colors you where PM me with a while back? have you thought about the blasted alum? we have a color that is a match for that... looks like this
looks like blasted alum but cleans like powder

shifter's awesome. arm's fantastic. big fan of all the brass work. im so fucking jealous im about to blow chunks.

help me out because I might be an idiot, whats the difference between a suicide shift and a tank shift? why do you like tank shifts as opposed to suicides?

Thanks very much guys.

The scale of things may be a little deceptive so I snapped one with my big hairy paw on the handle for reference. You'll also note that in fact the lever is just an old Honda piece taped on for reference. I haven't built the actual lever or base yet but will when I get some time. I also haven't decided what I'll do for grips here or the bars yet. I'm vacillating between leather bicycle grip wrap because it can be used to lend a little vintage touch, old school gum colored grips or something.....creative. We'll see.....

As for colors and coatings, right now everything you see has been rudely sand blasted and hit with Duplicolor satin clear. It's not optimal for the long term but until I tear it down for the final coating and paint work this'll do. I'm thinking that when it all goes back together I'll re-blast everything with glass bead and soda to clean it up and will likely do a satin clear on it for exactly the point you make....ease of cleanup.

ahh man then that is great!! what about instead of a grip you just turn the handle section and groove it just put like 10 groves in i 1/4 to 1/2 in apart, then you can do the inside of the groves to match the paint on the bike. would really tie it in nicely, or rubber dip the grip section, then grove it so it has a negitive effect, then color match... i think any kind of grip would take away from the look of it, i dig it!

Misters Fish, Longhorn and Maritime, thank you gents so much!

dp9: that may be a semantics question more than anything:
Suicide shift is (in my mind) either a jocky shift (behind the leg and below the seat) or a tank shifter but withfoot clutch. Having the clutch lever still operated by hand just makes more sense to me and feels more natural to me. Plus I get to make a neat lever too!

Joe: Another good idea. I'm not really sure what I'll do for the final details but we'll get there eventually...
