Sonic's 68 CB350 Build (almost done, tuning)

Re: Sonic's 68 CB350 Build (Engine done)

Alright made a TON of progress today.

Got the engine reinstalled in the frame with a few too many curse words and a couple scuffs.

Then came the front forks. The tops of the tubes were pretty rusty, so I sanded them down with 220 and hit them with black. They came out great

From the forks it was about 10PM but I couldn't stop, so on with the front wheel! (and handlebars)

And from there she was looking to damn pretty, so I had to get her outfitted with her read end

Then onward to the engine covers

And thats where I stopped for the night..

Came to a few conclusions.
1) The clubman's look like asshole, the lamp will be low, and the gauges low as well so the clumbman's are just too damn high and look out of place. So clip-ons it is. (the clubman's are already bent if you have been following along)

2) Appliance epoxy is the shit. But it really does take a week to fully harden.

3) My electronics tray is too far forward, so ill have to figure something out

4) My garage needs a THOROUGH cleaning.

Got the wiring sorted today. Had to lengthen the regulator wiring but otherwise all is well.

Took forever to figure out the problem.
Engine paint+powder coated frame = non grounded engine.
Which causes no spark.

Anyway random picture

Finally getting it all together. It's insane how long the little stuff takes.

Finally got my battery sorted out.

Suppose this is why my carb was screwed up

How the hell does that even happen?

Re: Sonic's 68 CB350 Build (Engine done)

Well, no interest but ill keep updating!

Have been tinkering with stuff and piecing together the little stuff.

First up, I didnt want to run 2 gauges, just dont like the look. I have been riding dirtbikes without tach's for years so i said screw the tach. Ill probably replace with an acewell eventually but this is happening at the moment.
Made an aluminum mount for the speedo which places it roughly even with the triple for when i switch to clipons.

Once that was done, I needed a neutral light well not needed but I had a cool idea for it)
So i put an LED where the old steering stabilizer was (i didnt want it anyway if I need one, ill mount an external nice one)

And here she is together and buttoned up

Also finished almost all of my wiring.
Bike is ready to run whenever I get my carb slide in
Did a quick photo-shoot. She is finally staring to look good! I can see the end!

Re: Sonic's 68 CB350 Build (almost seat building time)

are you leaving it open piped? ive got the two into on that i left completely open on mine and it sounds freaking awesome!

Re: Sonic's 68 CB350 Build (almost seat building time)

No that's not the plan.
But at the moment the finds have pretty much dried up so that's how she'll sit till I get some CL pipes or fab a custom setup.
I have some 8" baffles in there at the moment and ill probably get some cheap turndowns and pack them up pretty good and HOPE to hell that its bearable lol

Re: Sonic's 68 CB350 Build (almost seat building time)

Very nice. You definitely do quick work. If I ever find a 350 for the right price I'll have it done quick. Got 3 grand set aside for the purchase and redo.

Re: Sonic's 68 CB350 Build (almost seat building time)

Turns out I'm not excellent at fiberglassing on my first try.
So there will be a LOT of finish work :/
There will be another attempt later but for now I'll see this one through

Re: Sonic's 68 CB350 Build (almost seat building time)

well tossed on a mix of resin and filler and began the loooooong smoothing process.
I'm done for the night I'm worn out!

I thought I had avoided the dreaded fiberglass itch! Until typing this my arms are itching like a mad man.
Damn should have worn long sleeves.

Re: Sonic's 68 CB350 Build (almost seat building time)

You need to take a cold shower...Hot water will make it worse

Re: Sonic's 68 CB350 Build (almost seat building time)

Looks great man. I love the dents. I am just tearing down a 350, so I will be hitting you up for some info/advice.

Body work is my enemy. I despise it.

Sonic's 68 CB350 Build (almost seat building time)

Anybody got a front fender from a 350 they want to part with?
I had to cut mine to get it off and now I need a fork brace.
Go figure.

Re: Sonic's 68 CB350 Build (almost seat building time)

Check D&D out in west columbia or Mids in sumter one of them will probably have what you need

Re: Sonic's 68 CB350 Build (almost seat building time)

Thanks,
Went to D&D the other day....WOW what complete DOUCHEBAGS.
One dude would not shut up about MMA fighting for 30 minutes BEFORE he bothered to ask if I needed help.
The other guy was just an asshole in general.
Not recommended.

And MIDS didnt even have a carb for a 350

This is looking freaking rad man! I'm in the finishing mode on my 74CL 360. Just coming down to putting on new tires and bobber style taillight once they come in. While the wheels are off I was thinking about painting them. I really like what you did with yours. You might of said but what paint did you use for them?

Re: Sonic's 68 CB350 Build (almost seat building time)

Appreciate the compliment!

I used appliance epoxy. Get it at lowes.
Paint it and then dont touch it for a week and its good stuff.

Sonic's 68 CB350 Build (almost seat building time)

That's what I thought, thanks. It's the same stuff you used on the engine? It's brush on right? No more questions, that's my last one. Thanks for replying.
