The CB400T basement find

I may stay dual Box, but I'm thinkin I'll mock up a 2-1 left hand exit just to see.

When I was doing my exhaust, I discovered if I mounted the Left on the right cylinder and the Right on the left cylinder they ended up very close together in the middle, You may want to experiment with the same or try using 2 lefts to bring them closer together for your Left hand exit. Just a thought.

The more I thought about what you said, I ended up with another bright idea. Have them meet in the middle kinda like an x-pipe on a car or meet and bend out with box tips. Not much done on the old girl today but I did pick up some fibre glass stuff from work and found a buddy with a vertical band saw so I can make a clean cut to my tailsection/saddlebag lid.

The exhaust you describe is pretty much wht I did on mine, but with out the box tips, plain 'ol slash cut on mine. I did it because I did not want the exahaust to interfere with my rear set linkages as it would if they ran down the sides. if you look at pics in my thread you will get the idea. I will tell you that they stick out a little more at the front of the engine if you flip them, but that was ok by me.

If I can be so bold, It looks like your plan for the Saddle/Seat Bump is to cut out the short side and leave the long side for the bump, I think it may look better and give you a longer "Cafe" seat area and smaller bump, if you cut the long side out.

I have flipped it around a few time to get an idea of how much seat area I'm gonna have and how much tire coverage I'm gonna get. Keep in mind I will be using some of the bottom half of the bag to make it fit down over the top part of the frame and am also aiming to use the stock seat release as well. If I screw it up too bad, I have another cover and bag! I probably should have asked if anybody needed near mint, period correct Shoei bags before I start cutting them up!

I'm always open to suggestions and being my first bike build I am always looking for them. Keep em commin Franknfe!

got a little more work done on the ol girl today. Armed with cardboard, paint sticks and a handymans' secret weapon Duct Tape, I proceeded to mock up the tail end. Hopefully tomorrow I can get the seat pan and what not mocked up and then its 'glass time!

Looks like that old saddlebag will transform into a slick tail. Good thinking.

With no power in the shop, I can only work till dark so I have time to make the pretty pictures. I think that was with Photoshop.

Yeah Reddy, its coming along considering it was a vintage Shoei saddlebag on Monday!

I need to learn how to do some of these awesome photo effects, nah better work on my bike.......

Those bars are not the ones I'll be using. I just needed them rolled down to get the line I was looking for. It was funny, with them in their normal position the tail never looked right, but roll them down and bam, money!

It's my job to stir the pot...now it's time for some 2 wheel therapy!

Wrenchin' & ridin', but not necessarily in that order..............

Don't pull a Simoncelli on me while I've got a knee on the deck!

Glad to hear it was just good 'ol fashion ball bustin....not some troll tryin to stir shit.......I had your back, us CM/CBTurd owners gotta stick together, especilally when getting attacked by Kawasucki's ;D

Frank,

We are long time friends, & current neighbors that harass each other on all projects that involve 2 wheels.

I'm the "shed farmer" he speaks of in his post. His (w.i.p.) hybrid bike (KLR w/Ninja 250 motor)....the motor comes from one of my projects.

Some parts have arrived...I guess it's time to wrap up my project for the year and go enjoy it!

BTW. Jay is a Kawi fanatic also....he just couldn't turn down a dirt cheap Honda.....since all the good Kawi's are all being currently loved & no one wants to part with them. ;D

With out my "Neighbor" / "Bud" / "Shed farmer" there wouldn't be a single new weld on my bike and most new metal has come from scrap pieces in his garage 4 doors down.

His No fear of whipin out the cutting wheel has really been alot of the new found freedom to express myself on my build.

This guy (kid to me really at 26) is in my opinion already a master welder fabricator customizer. While we walk in different worlds, him in bagged Mini Trucks and me in Vintage Hondas, we have the almighty "wrenchen" in common and ability to appreciate others hard work. Here is a link to a page displaying his latest handywork "ToyRover".

Salute to all the "Neighbors", "Wrenchin Buds" and "Shed Farmers"

Now go kick jayfromjay's butt and get him back to work on the Saddle Bag Seat, I want to see how that thing comes out!

Frank,

For 26 yo, he does some mighty fine work.

Jay is painting trailers this evening....so I can't kick his ass in gear, but I will harass him!

We are going to a Rockers show this weekend....to get ideas. He's all excited, also since he doesn't have any road worthy wheels yet...he borrows my wife's ride. He deals with the crap people give him (mostly me) about the license plate "LUNILDY".

I'm not a Honda fan, but I do have this one in my shed: The ST90 is ALIVE!

I also got this one going for a buddy of mine:
Operation CB100 Final Edition.wmv

This is what I am currently working on...Jay was there with a 2nd pair of hands:
Drop & Swap.wmv

BTW, the Ninja runs better now that the carbs have been fettled.
