The SkyTeam 'Ace' Resource

Hey guys, just thought I'd post an update. Took your suggestions and checked the throttle cable and the slide in the carby, but sadly it didn't appear to be either of these issues. Sent it off to a mechanic today, should be back on the road soon. PS. some new motorcycle apparel arrived today. Will post a photo of my riding gear soon as I finally feel like I suit my bike! PPS. new house-mate has an amazing camera and selection of aerial drones, so hopefully I can get him to snap some pics or video of me riding the bike

Hi Guys,

I'm from Belgium and i am following this topic for a while and i thought i show you mine.

i have made a lot of changes already on the ace so far and maybe more to come ;D

The carb still needs a filter :D

The fairing looks great and your silencer is unlike any other!

Your name has been added to the ever expanding list of DTT 'Ace' owners.

Crazy

Hi Simmie

Bike looks good. Where did the fairing come from?

Rather than quiz you on other mods, would be great if you can add a line on the bottom of this spreadsheet and fill it in
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Al1LNMJQkZqydE1YZHVpV2RoOGJQVmpkT1ZKMVozSlE#gid=0

Anyone else who hasn't entered stuff on the spreadsheet yet (or updated lately), no time like the present!

I bought it from a guy in Holland, it was a universal fairing/windshield that you have to modify to you're specific bike.
Lots of work to get it right and make the custom support for the fairing to the bike ;D

I will fill the spreadsheet in for sure!

Hey guys, I need a hand to figure out what the local dealer's outsourced mechanic, who no longer works for them, may have changed in my carb.

I am happy that I have the correct jets from OO Racing for my current set up, or closer enough anyway (48 pilot and 90 main). I can go up and down from there to fine tune.

In the picture below, you will see that the pilot jet set up that the dealer fitted is a 3 piece affair and that the screw part of it is marked 38C. The OO jet (48) does not screw in to this holder. From reading about other Ace rejets, it seems to me that there should be just a holder and the jet. I assume that the mechanic has replaced the whole set up with a different style of pilot. Am I right? And if so, has anyone got a link to where I could purchase the correct holder so I can use the OO jet!?

This makes me suspicious of the part that the needle rides up and down in too. Perhaps the mechanic put a different part in. It has two rows of 5 holes unevenly placed plus a couple of extra individual holes at the top. Bike is hesitant in midrange where it would be running off the needle and that unevennes in the holes makes me doubly suspicious. Does this look like it should?

And finally I also notice that the head of the 90 (AB) OO jet is longer than the head of the one (marked 95) the mechanic fitted. Is that an issue?

Your thoughts, or photos of correct parts, if this has been messed up, would be much appreciated. Or let me know if I am going mad and looking at this all wrong. I won't be offended.

3 part pilot is original sky team. one part oo pilot replaces this assembly
90 main is correct . all is good for standard bike 125 original pipe. as you open up exhaust and air cleaner you will need to go richer on the main.emgo shorty will need a 95 - 100 main with no air box. major porting will require 102.5
guestimates only

Ahh, excellent, I will just screw that OO pilot directly in to carb body, no sleeve required!

So remaining question is what is the standard length of the head of the main jet screw. i.e. Which is correct 4mm (from OO) or 3mm (which is currently fitted)? And what difference would this make?

When I hold the oo and currently fitted main jets side by side, with the ends of the screws (not the heads) lined up, I can see that the hole that sits closest to needle will sit at exactly the same height. However the hole in the middle of the screw head, that will be in the bowl, is 1mm deeper in to the bowl on the OO jet.

Cheers
Richard

the jet orifice hight is what is matters if anything. the jet is well under the surface of fuel in bowl. along as the depth of jet does not block it against bottom of bowl it should be ok. you are correct if you screw the pilot into body of carb.

my last jet set in old carb was 48 pilot /95 main. the last one i set up on another bike which had an emgo shorty muffler , oo racing down pipe and a different air cleaner element was 48/100. this was a tad rich but running in so was happy with it

i am now running a vm26 flange 232 carby with butterfly choke. this setup is for emgo shorty.38mm header free flowing air cleaner element port and polish ports . 150 large valve head. 25 pilot needle slot 3 main 102.5 . this is good up top midrange good ,needs choke to start .
plug colour is darker coffee. only set up this afternoon. leaned off from 105 main as plug was black to deep deep brown.
hope this helps. may still play with pilot but bottom and needle are the same as on dyno. tryed moving needle and was still best spot.

Not an Ace, but this is a beauty of a bike if you were to be looking for one:

Damn man... I just dumped all of my 'fun money' for an XS650 and a parts bike.. otherwise I would be buying this right now! I love small displacement bikes and this is one of the kings. Kicking myself for not waiting on my most recent bike purchase.. would love to have this one in the shop.

Love the fairing. Bloody brilliant. All aces should have one!

I agree, the fairings do do a lot for the Ace but they are not the easiest thing to find.
That one of yours looks factory fitted, super job. Did you buy it new, or had it been on something else before?
The stays look well made, but looking at your exhaust your not short of tooling and skill.
Sometimes it's just a matter of offering things up and going from there, as mine from a 70s Jawa sports moped.

My new rear bushes and front pads (ebc FA165tt) have arrived! Hope I can get them on this week, the rear end is super clunky for the last 500kms.

Wow, new bushes makes a big difference!

After replacing the front pads the brakes feel sponger, so bled them a few time so dunno if being hyper sensitive as they were pretty bad beforehand Nd it's just because of the pads needing to be bedded in and the brake line is pretty average too so may need to replace that...

If you can surface the rotor a bit it will help that spongy feeling, the pads are riding on the micro high spots until run in and it's a nasty feeling until they do... Head for some downhill breaking fun, that will dial em in too. The line if rubber no steel braid could be softening also.

Yeah it got better as I got into work, the spongyness is probably felt mostly in the first 60% of when I'm breaking, which makes sense as there will be less of the pad touching the surface at this point in time. I was worried it was my amateur brake bleeding but I flushed it about 5 times to make sure there was absolutely no air in the system. Oh well just gotta take it easy for a bit and maybe look at a new brake line down the track. I know others have had great success from that too.

If you have clip-ons try bleeding the brake with the steering fully turned to a position so that the banjo on the end of the m/cylinder is lower than the reservoir. Worked for me.
I got trapped wind ???
