The SkyTeam 'Ace' Resource

It's a test to see if you have enough patience, ingenuity, and strength to be worthy of owning an 'Ace'!

I ended up with a classic case of bloodied knuckles undoing the left cap.

Crazy

I have the same gouged hands too. No result with the caps however at this point. At least the wounds are sign that I tried.

I attempted holding the fork using a band wrench & also pipe wrench, neither of which could torque against the fork! I was tempted to grind the surface off the fork to give the pipe wrench something to grab onto but I've run out of time this round, next round hopefully I'll have better luck.

Might have to bite the bullet and remove the forks completely and put them in a vice.

Have you tried an impact driver- air rattle gun. Putting a socket on and hitting socket with a hammer to shock it loose. Probably locked on with loctite stuff. Only loosens with a shock to shatter "glue". Holding fork with inner tube in many layers and big vise grips should stop it turning

I used a long ring spanner and hammer. Corrosion was the 'glue' locking it on.

Crazy

I've loosened many bolts/screws by hammering them with the correct tool. For the top cap I would hammer it with a socket over to try to shook whatever glue is holding it down.

I would advise to use this before going to the vise or even worse the angle grinder

Yep, its not the torquing of the caps that I'm concerned about but rather the fastening of its parent material!

I haven't tried yelling and cursing at them yet.

Hi all!

First post here. I bought my ace a couple of months ago, great fun, but unfortunately last week a nail got embedded in my rear tyre.. Now im planning on replacing both tyres with dunlop k82's. i read here that standard sizes are 2.75/18 front and 3.00/18 rear, but the smallest 18"version of the k82 seems to be the 3.00. Does anyone know if it would be a problem to use the 3.00/18 as my front tyre?

Thanks in advance for any input!

I got K82 on my ace and did not have problem to get a 2.75 version. I'm in europe so maybe they are easier to get. Where are you from ?
I can tell you that it made a HUGE difference. I changed so many things in my ace (carb, exhaust, brakes, fork oil and spacer, shocks etc) and still the move to K82 is one of the most noticeable upgrade. You definetly get a grip that is not possible with the stock tyres.

thanks for the replies!

And yea alan i saw your pictures, i think these tyres look great on this bike! I'm from belgium so i guess i should be able to get the 2.75s then, though the dunlop site only shows 3.00+.. I'll try my luck with some local dealers

Replaced the rear shocks last weekend, and boy, what a different it made. Totally different riding experience, for the better.

Trying to replace mine today with a set from OORacing, the AP335 ones, except they don't seem to fit - the internal diameter on the bushes is approximately 2mm smaller than the original and consequently the new ones just will not go on.

Their summer hours mean no-one is there today either, so not likely to get to resolve this before the weekend is over.

Unless I'm missing something really obvious? Any aid would be appreciated.

Edit: Fixed it, swapped the bushes from the original shocks to the OORacing ones.

Also got the front forks upgraded with the OO kit, tomorrow I'm off to try out my improved Ace - can't wait ;D

I picked up some adjustable shocks on eBay from a guy near me from his cafe racer project. He bought them and used em for 50kms and decided he wanted black shocks instead of chrome. They're for a cb250 and bolted straight on, and for $29 I'm happy as Larry. He gave me the set of original bushes in which there were quite a variety, I'm sure you'll be able to find a smaller bush set to suit (or reuse the ones from the original shocks if you're in a bind i guess).

New is always better of course!

Great ride this weekend! New shocks made it another notch better ;-)

Want to put Michelin M45 size 3.5 both front and rear! Reason? Because it looks good! The skinny tires make the bike look like a toy ;-) Thoughts? Stupid idea? I am well aware that I would have to get a new front fender, but how about rims? Are the stock ones going to be able to accommodate the fat tires?

Cheers and have a great Monday everyone!

Thomas

Thinking of getting this and some black fork brackets for my black framed ace. Any one see any gotchas? Would I need some sort of rubber moulded fitting for the rear of it?
