2010 golf tdi 50mpg bitches!

We picked up an '11 Golf TDI back in April. That thing is sweet. It's not just fast for a diesel, it's fast period. And when I punish it and drive it hard, I still get 36mpg all day. I love it. EPA estimates 30mpg for city driving, but we've never gone that low. You can't find another diesel car in this country that can do 7.9 second 0-60 for that price while sipping fuel.

The only bad thing about it is that it's my wife's car. I went and bought a civic the year before, and now I'm just looking for any excuse to get behind the wheel. "Oh we need something from the store? I'll get it. You're parked behind me? No big deal..."

Hey Pat,
Sorry man didn't mean to get testy. I built the motor and intake about 10 years ago. The motor is a 2.0L ABA block like what your using with a 16V head. It was more of a challenge because a whole bunch of people told me it couldn't be done using stock Motronic managment. So I proved them all worng and made a ton of hp doing it. The motor is super reliable and runs like a top but very very violent which makes it a workout to drive. Yes there are 2 fuel rails one runs the stock injectors for the motronic sysyem and the second rail is run by as SDS controller.
The hard part was getting the Motronic to recognize the 16V dist and took alot of internal modifying to make it work, there were also some oil galleries and coolant lines that needed to be modified, but it works well now.

I'm just one of thoes guys that if you present me a challenge and tell me it cannot be done I'll do everting in my power to prove you wrong.

D.

I had a VW 1.8T Passat for a year... It was the worst car I ever owned... Too bad because VWs are some of the sharpest looking cars on the road.. Aside from BMWs that is..

I found the parts to this kit car project for sale on the side of a road near here - I guess they were cleaning out the barn and wanted to get rid of this never-finished project begun in the 1970's. The body was on a '66 Beetle pan and drivetrain and it was barely driveable- the motor ran (finally) and the brakes worked, period. I gave them $1500 for it and redid about everything. I rewired the entire electric system and replaced all the exterior lights, I bought a Harbor Freight MIG welder (when it quits I'll buy a Lincoln or Miller since I learned I like to weld) to fabricate an exhaust system with, I found a place where I could buy a sheet of engine-turned aluminum which I used to build a dashboard, I reupholstered the seat and interior, etc. So far I have about $2500 in it and it's the most fun I've had with a car, for less money and much slower than any of the many others past or present. The girl was a passer-by who stopped to look at it so I told her she could sit in it if she wanted to, she did and agreed I could take her picture. That happens A LOT wherever I park it. I get a lot of derision from serious car people because they call it a fraud, a fake- they think I'm trying to pass this off as a real type 35B Bugatti, but I'm not- there's a big VW emblem from the front of a VW bus on the "radiator" and I tell them it's just an old man's toy car that everyone likes. That's true, 99% of those who notice me driving by wave and smile.

Kinda how I am feeling right now... I wish I could trade in my civic for a golf like my wife's. Japanese cars have been good to me, but german cars are more fun.

Wish I still had mine. ...bit difficult to work on in the dining room though. :p
