the zombie apocalypse thread...

I can attest to that grouping BR! I love shooting long range and have a longe range shooting range set up on our farm. I can send .223 rounds from my AR into a 10 clay at 1000-1200 yards with an accuracy rate of better than 90%.

That still sounds extreme. Even then, whats the penetrating power? Do you hunt with it? How far do you make your kill shots?

Its still weird shooting them, I cant say I like the sound of the spring.

Heres my shortlist:

Colt 1911. Unbreakable. Plenty of available ammo. Close quaters stopping power that cant be denied. You get sights on an undead intruders skull... Goodbye. A living intruder, it'll put him down at 15 yards. No problem.

Custom Anschutz 22 cal. target rifle. Super light, and super accurate. Can be carried on person. Tons of available ammo. Medium range defense. At 100+ yards you should be able to land one right on the forhead of your target with no issues.

RM .762 Long range rifle. You wont hear the shot that kills ya. With practice you can dispatch the dead (or living) at 500 - 800 yards easily. Great long distance defense weapon. get a few set up around you perimiter and train your comrads to use them. Ill also keep one on the ride (see below) for use in the field/hunting. Also plenty of available ammo.

As for transport. One of my first moves after the shit goes down is moving out to a region where the climate allows for outdoor living, year round. The deep south, or temperate desert. that said, Small. fast. and agile is the way to go. The BMW F800GS. With the proper exhaust its quiet, and with the right tires, you can go anywhere.

Both are small rounds, but with that kind of accuracy, a head shot is very easy and will exterminate even the largest of prey. I do hunt some game with them on long range hunting, but my .308 mag is the preffered gun for longe rang big game, as you don't want to make head shots on trophy game! I can hit a 10' clay with it at 800 yard easy and have a decent percentage at 1000. It hase the same leopold scope as the .223 AR. As far as zombie killing goes, putting a .223 round in the forehead at 1000 + yards, it would be more than enough to do the trick, especially if your using balistic tip rounds in 55 grain! They make a 6 inch exit hole in 1/2 inch plywood at 1000 yards!

I will not list my arsenal on the net! Not a good idea for obvious reasons!

HA HA HA... Good idea. I dont actually own any guns. Have no need for them. I shoot my friends guns if I get the urge.

BR, just so you know, the AR platform is the most versitile killing weapon in the world! With the propper kits you can convert the weapon to chamber many different rounds from .22 to .50! Including 308. mag and others. It is simple and easy to swap in the field and if you know how or who to go to, you can get a trigger mech that allows full auto. I do suggest having two .223 barrels, one for fast round repetition and one for longe range accuracy shots. Fast round repetition heats the barrel and allows the round to smooth the edge of the riffling grooves and decreases accuracy dramatically. I "set" all of my longe range barrels by going though a propper "setting" method. Start by sending one round at a time every 20 minutes for 30 rounds, cleaning the bore between every shot. Then send 2 rounds every 5 minutes for 50 rounds cleaning after every 3 rounds. then sending one round every minute for 100 rounds cleaning every ten rounds. Your "set" after that. You can then send a round every 20 seconds and clean after every 50 rounds without harming your bore. A good long range bore will maintain accuracy for about 5000 rounds before .0075 cal. diffences are found on bore sizing. For accurate shots after that you will need a new barrel.

I should pull my old Bear compound out...it's been a long time! Not a bad item if you're in need (and capable) of ninja like silence. Sheer mass/volume displaced may become an issue if you have to load for lots of targets though.....arrows take up a fair amount of room.

I have collected a few real swords over the years, started with a family claymore that hangs on the wall in my entryway. Religious salesmen don't hang around much after I open the door......naked with a beer at 9am on a Saturday.....and a large sword hanging within reach.
I think a decent Malay parang could do the trick on most deadies until you're overrun. Meet one whilst scavenging the local department store for new skivvies.....don't want to alert the "locals".....whack his or her head off quietly and keep on shopping!

I hear you swagger, my current bow rig is a Mathews Q2, I have some real nice goodies on it too, chrono'ed at 321ft/sec! That is with the muzzy bone buster 115 grain broadheads!
List as this:
three pin floating sight with bore peep
custom twist zebra strings and cables
10" mathews tri-core stabilizer
mathews quiet web 5 arrow quiver
snap remove arrow rest that completely opens to not touch the arrow upon release
limb saver anti-vibe knobs
gold tip pro hunter carbon arrows
115 grain muzzy bone buster broad heads
cobra ball release

As you all can tell, I love my weapons more than my scoots!

Yea, Ive used them lots in before in the 565 in semi and full auto (fun).

Im not "in to them" like you seem to be but i would think its a simple as changing the upper reciver.

Sounds like you target shoot, more effort tham im willing for a few weeks of stomping in the sticks for bambi.

Its not just about hunting deer or other game! Its about having fun, becoming skilled with a firearm, and being prepared for whatever I need to be, invation of any unwanted threat! I enjoy shooting and I like to know that I could kill at a range that my target never knew I was even there. From a nice vantage point, I can take out a slow moving target at 1000 yards with several different riffles in my arsenal. With the AR I could take out multiple slow moving targets at 500 - 800 yards in a matter of about one minute. I hope I never need these skills on human targets, but it is nice to know I could if need be. I have also taken tactical handgun training and plan on taking a tactical shotgun course when I find the cash to buy a tactical shotgun and the course. I also plan on purchasing a Barret M-95 .50 cal. anti-tank weapon in the future. This weapon is accurate up to a 1.5 miles with the propper rounds and scope. I want to become good enough to take out the 10" clays at 2500 yards with it. It is an american right to own and bear arms, and I take full advantage of my right.

who the hell needs a .50? Is there an antelope running around with an M1A1?

I'm all for a nice collection but why ??? Home defense from over a mile?

Canadian soldier Corporal Rob Furlong, formerly of the PPCLI (Operation Anaconda, Afghanistan) - holds the record for the longest-ever recorded and confirmed sniper kill at 2,430 m (2,657 yd) using a .50 caliber (12.7 mm) McMillan TAC-50 rifle

Why do you need that?

Thats right tim! You have to be prepared!
Again BR, shooting is a hobby of mine! I enjoy it, and I would like to have that knowledge and capability! Also, it is fun to have the biggest toy in your play group! I am sure you know that feeling!

And if I do find and antelope piloting an M1A1, I can put him on my wall! ;D

Oh yeah, reference "The Colony" from the Science channel. Not about zombies, but a good deal of practical (and not so practical) post apocalyptic ideas.
the colony, I watched that. I'll be needing that survival guide. My brothers and I have been thinking about things like this since the movie Red Dawn came out. Not a zombie flick but an invasion after all. head to the farm and lock down. Food, shelter. but after hearing some other plans, we're going to have to update ours

But our founding fathers could never have guessed about a zombie apocalypse!

Zombies cant fly, can they?

With modern technology and proper prep, you can stay up in the air for a very long time taking pot shots at zombies whenever you feel in complete safety. Land on some grocery store and restock.

I will start building one when my bike and truck are complete.

All cool untill you start taking fire from jealous red necks with .50 cal anti armor pearcing rifles ;)

Man. Firearms debates. I have been in those so many times. We should start a separate thread for that.
