"Traveler's" 1977 CB550K Cafe build

Traveler, I solute you and the time you are taking on this engine! That said, stick with it, it should go great with the tank. Cant wait to see the tank and seat together...what kind of turn around time was it for the seat and tank? I would really like to know a price too, but won't ask you to disclose that here....

wow, I always loved the CR tanks, roccity is really doing a great job on it! If you dont mind me asking, about how much is the tank running you? Id like to add one to my wishlist..

The seat and tank together, polished, $1200. About 2.5 months. Sean @ Roc City Cafe. He is a member here. www.roccitycafe.com

Thanks for the comments.

Thanks, Joe.

I'm almost done buying the stuff I need to complete this bike.....then just labor to do the rest.

Today, My RAASK rearsets arrived.

Apparently, word of their "lack of quality" must have reached them, as you can see.....they look quite a bit better than the older versions.

Anyway, here are some pics

nice work Joe. You are indeed a patient man. FWIW, I use a 'chiseled' paintbrush handle to wrap my paper/steelwool:

The wood is a lot softer and if it happens to contact your metal, it won't gouge it the way a screwdriver might. I used this technique first on a cb900 valve cover with great effect. If you're familiar with the part, you'll know what a nightmare of a casting *that* is to clean up.

Anyway, just thought I'd throw it out there for you ;)

Love watching your progress dude. Great work

cheers

Great tip! Thanks!

Tom at Anubis Cycle sent me this pic of my front rotor....he just finished drilling it. Once I get it home, I will restore the finish.

Here's a quick pic.

I officially froze my butt off, and spent 4-5 hours out in the garage (I did take 2 warm up breaks) working on the engine finish some more.

I got the head and cylinders done, except around the carbs. I also finished the top part of the front case.

Granted, some of the deep scratches need to be sanded out with increasingly finer grades of sandpaper, but the difference is becoming apparent. I started using coarse steel wool, and a green scrubber pad.

Anyway, here are a few pics:

The dirt that can be seen between the fins comes off easy....brake cleaner, a rag and a screwdriver will clean it up 100%...that comes when the job is done.

looks really good, joe. keep up tha nice scrubbin cause it's gettin shiney. rotor and rearsets sure look great!

Thanks,

You are one of only about 3-4 other guys who ever have any comments. Most have nothing to say.....I wonder why???

Because you aren't doing anything "wrong" If you were, you would know! (look at my thread)

I know what you mean about the casting... I have some cleaning up to do on mine too.

Well....I appreaciate the comments.

Maybe this forum and me just don't work well together for some reason (it has been known to occur).

I'll keep posting for those that actually want to see what I am building. :-\

Cheers,
