TX500 build

man, I love it Joe! Such awesome stuff. I'm kinda with the fellas. I think that the tank could use pads on it...just to give it that final feel? But hell, that's such a small drop in a big beautiful "bucket of water"! Can't nitpick that one bro!

Bravo.

I would actually take a different approach. Ride it around a little before winter sets in properly. Wait a bit and think about what you really like. There's really no rush.

Hahaha, you know he's gotta be itchin to be ripping on the throttle comming out of a big twisty! So yeah, I guess I'm with Chris. Take that sicker off the table and put her down the road before the bad weather sets in. Do any finishing touches this winter.

well i have a buddy that owes me a solid. so we are going to jet and dyno it, ha ha ha ha it will be tuned on the dyno, i am stoked! should be intresting to see what numbers she will pull. No real reason, i have access to one, so i am going to use it... sometime next week.
i agree with chris, i have to get it off the table before i do anything else to it... have to see it on the ground. i am also thinking of adding some do the ton decals (the round logo) on the front part of the tank... I put on the trank strip...and to be honest i am not sure how crazy i am about it... but we will see when she is flat footed on the ground. of course it is pouring rain today! OF COURSE!

Put your dyno numbers on the side of the tank. That will scare a lot of your Harley buddies off :)

I've personally gone through a couple graphic iterations on my tank. You can do that kind of thing anytime. Shit, as long as this project has gone, I would think graphics are the last thing you're worried about :)

you like that?! really i have been all over the place if i want to keep it or not... it is off a Harley sportster, got it at a swap meet for $1. took some shaving and shaping but it works now... i still have to trim it just a fraction... but it is ON the tank now... i used a bunch of 3M tap on that sucker... will be a pain to get off if i ever have to! I cut 4 inches off of it, then used the belt sander to round out the end, finishing files to get a clean edge on it... then put it on!

Ha! That's the exact same as my stepdad's Sportster. Colour and everything. Would be interesting to see the dyno numbers, since we're working with the same motor. What's your carb/jetting set-up? I went one size up on the mains when I rebuilt mine as a starting point.

I have not started to toy with that... that is what we are going to use the dyno for next week to help us get it on point... i have only used the dyno to sync in fuel injected bikes... so it is going to be alot of me standing around looking stupid i can guess... i got 3 up and 3 down for the slow and main... they have some there as well if i need them... guess we will see!

man! i tried to cut the foam for my seat, i am using Neopreen. I screwed up 4x's and had to order more... SUCKS... but the guy on ebay i buy from is local so maybe he will let me pick up at his house, if not...ill pull parts from what i cut and make that work itll i get the new sheet of padding... ahhh! of course somethingl stupid like this would happen!

last time I had to cut that stuff (pain in the ass) I ended up making a plywood pattern of the shape I needed, mashed it down on the piece of foam with my knee and then cut it. At least that way it came out relatively uniform. Are you going to upholster over it?

nope just using the neoprene and that is it... i makred out the design i wanted, then tried to use a framing square to get a strait line... FAIL.... i am going to take it to the craft store and use the big paper cutter they have there (the the big arm blade thing)
sucks ill snap some pics of what i did... just a mess! ha ha ha

Its hard to say anything about this bike that has not already been said - Really beautiful and super smooth - looks like its wet. You'll have to wear velcro pants to stay on her! I really like the colors and details - very different and original. Nice work man! -MBS

joe, I could use your help with this oil cooler setup. I found that adapter online. How in the world did you get it to fit with the oil filter and have enough clearance for the covers to fit???? Small oil filter? Which one?

what i did was a few things. 1st i cut out the side of the case to allow for the spin on filter, (actually run a longer one than stock)

then i ditched the strait outputs on the jack plate and went with 90* bend ones that i could run out, took some possitioning but they will work

you can see the bends here

then ran the lines back

I was worried about the bike having enough UMPH to push the oil up and back but it works great and i get about an extra 1/2 qt in there cause of it! runs cool and smoooooth
