Keep up the amazing work. I had a '88 K75 for a short time, picked it up for a trade of my '89 Suzuki GS500, the friend didnt like the K75, was too tall for him. I loved the bike, had heated grips, windscreen, hard bags and center bag. Did light maintenance on it, then came a fuel pump issue, then the cable for the clutch snapped while I was about to take off for a ride. After that, learning more about the splines issue, and mine having over 50k on it, I decided to sell the bike shortly after. You're doing all the work I was forseeing for it's future.

Thanks bud. Riding them is good fun and all. However, I enjoy working on them a little more than riding them. So, I am within in my element. :) I have found, for me anyways, I view every ride as a test ride...Secretly hoping to uncover a new issue.

Re: A rather un-remarkable BMW re-fresh.

Got the fresh stems installed in the wheels. I dont have any idea what I was (or wasn't) thinking, not doing them when installing new tires a few months ago. Is what it is, all good now.

The wife helped me carry and load plastics into the dishwasher. Had to remove the top rack to fit the tail in.

Once done she said "this will be the last time I put motorcycle parts in her dishwasher/oven." What up w that attitude?

Spot free complements of Cascade w sheeting action! Ready for an acetone wipe down then strip/sanding for paint.

Re: A rather un-remarkable BMW re-fresh.

I don't have very many anal tweaks, but replacing stems every time I change tires (on all of my vehicles) is one of them.

I know I know. Ugh...lol. Its just stems automatically come w tubes. So, you really dont even have to think about them...as separate things.
But now I know...stems arent included w tubeless.

Re: A rather un-remarkable BMW re-fresh.

Yeah, you ALWAYS want to replace stems when you replace tires (and I change a lot of motorcycle tires, so I buy the stems in lots of four or ten at an auto parts store; they aren't anything special (think maybe those are TR413, but you'd need to check). BMW gets a pretty good buck for their "special" ones (only thing special is the metal cap, which I save and reuse).

I was buying in on your story until the part where your wife helped you load stuff into the dishwasher . . . yeah, sure . . . ;) My wife would like that even less than 35 years ago when we rented a cheap apartment and I rebuilt (automobile) carburetors on the kitchen table. Didn't smell too good . . .

Re: A rather un-remarkable BMW re-fresh.

They, do exist! I should wife mine, despite the display of poor judgment in choosing a slightly demented character as myself, she loves the smell of gasoline and rides her xs11 without a care in the world
Actually swapped exhaust valve guides on it in her kitchen.. the smell of roasted engine head sticks a while

Re: A rather un-remarkable BMW re-fresh.

I can understand if a guys brings a "smell" into the house. LOL

Re: A rather un-remarkable BMW re-fresh.

As of now, The special tool should arrive from Kiley sooner than later.
So really the only thing i got going now is sanding.
Oh, and the wife and I are taking this weekend to drive over to Cincinnati for the Garage Brewed Motorcycle show.
I'll post up some pics of that.

Also waiting for Kiley to send the water pump seal tool.

I'm very interested in seeing that tool once your friend sends it. I think I jinxed myself by saying earlier that those seals sometimes "heal" themselves (well, sometimes they do). Looking at my (naked) K75 sitting on the lift the other day, I can see that instead of an occasional coolant drip (which went away last summer after doing it for a few days), there is a slight oil drip. Though I have a brand new oil/water pump on the shelf, I'd much prefer to re-seal the old one if possible.

Sorry to hear about that. I would certainly entertain the thought of installing your brand new pump. It has rubber seals in it that WILL age and maybe dry rot. So I would do that first. Then rebuild the existing pump and put it on the shelf.

The oil seal is a normal type rubber seal, its the coolant side seal that is crazy, like nothing I have ever seen before. To replace the oil seal. You have to replace the coolant seal.

I also intend to make as detailed a write up as I can for the build. After, doing mine the first time I believe I did screw it up. I also believe the guys on youtube vids also screwed theirs up. (using sockets to drive the seal in) This seal is shockingly fragile.
Maybe a guy completes it successfully using sockets. But rarely and only getting lucky by chance.

I will post as many pics as needed.

Re: A rather un-remarkable BMW re-fresh.

Almost forgot to post my pics from the bike show in Cincinnati last weekend. Found a few DTTs finest.

One of the less awkward looking ones. best Ive seen actually. I hate the tank lines w the flat "cafe" seats though. something looks broken to me. Maybe a goldwing tank or something else would suit it better.

And I have no idea why they loose the Radiator cover thing. I think it would help the looks of it if they kept it.

Re: A rather un-remarkable BMW re-fresh.

Giant robot and his wife skipped out on the garage brewed show and went to Cuba to celebrate her birthday.

And all I got is a bunch of lousy Romeo y Julietas, Montecristo and Cohibas. The reason the Cohibas arent wrapped, they came directly from the farmer.
