Re: A rather un-remarkable BMW re-fresh.

Tuning in and staying tuned!
What a fabulous load of work you have done so far with a serious steal of a bike! I commend you. I'm taking notes on your attention to detail on maintenance matters.

Thanks bro! This is my first NON-Honda. You will see me having to do some things twice as I find and learn info after the fact.
example the water/oil pump re-re-build. ;)

Re: A rather un-remarkable BMW re-fresh.

Forgot to add some to the other days Gauge cluster efforts.

Found a decent deal on a complete cluster from Canada to cannibalize for spares.

While inside I also swapped in the working clock.

Deoxit bath for connectors

Now everything works as intended.

And still have a working spare Gear board on the shelf.

Also, cleaned all the connectors I could find. Including the 3 for the speedo.

After reading they can be troublesome.

Re: A rather un-remarkable BMW re-fresh.

HA!!! Well this is a $15.00 error, Live and learn.

The PO had this 1/4 torn off. And I just kept pulling and prying...til I finished it off.

Found it slips right off the other end REALLY easy. 8)

Re: A rather un-remarkable BMW re-fresh.

I know exactly what you mean about cleaning under the airbox . . . but I can never help myself either, when I'm under there!

Instrument cluster looks really nice.

Carb cleaner is HIGHLY FLAMMABLE...and can be easily ignited by electrical sparks causing fire, damage, injury and death.
AMATEUR DO NOT ATTEMPT!
DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME.

Everybody probably already knows all this, but here goes.

Sweetest injector cleaner ever.

Valve stem w guts out, i drilled hole in cap just a bit smaller than tube so it fits tight or glue it in.

I pulled o-ring off injector and fit valve stem on the injector, screw on cap w tube.

injector in vise, tube in can.

First- I touched wires to battery to open injector valve. Second- hit the spray can button.

Looks like fun!

But my bike doesn't have injectors …

Crazy

Re: A rather un-remarkable BMW re-fresh.

Now you've gone and planted the seed of yet another "questionable" practice I can incorporate in my garage . . .

I like the way you think!

Could you see any spray pattern difference before and after?

Your welcome!!!

And HELL YES!!! All 3 injectors were jacked. At first there was just a few tight piss streams (you can kinda see 3 jets if you look close at pics)

Now its just a huge blast of sweet ass misty fog. Like the ole DDT trucks fogging for mosquitoes.

I also read there is a fine screen inside each one. So tonight I am gonna try to shoot some cleaner through backwards to flush the screen backwash style.

As it seems I am determined to burn down the place.

Re: A rather un-remarkable BMW re-fresh.

I remember reading somewhere that carb cleaner is HIGHLY FLAMMABLE and can be easily ignited by electrical sparks causing fire, damage, injury and death. So be careful. This is a very cool setup, though.

Re: A rather un-remarkable BMW re-fresh.

When we were kids, we used to buy out the drug store of all their Aquanet hairspray to make flame throwers. Ya know, for science.

I can only take credit for recognizing and recreating the beauty of it. YouTube is the hero.
