Urban warrior CB750 build (It's alive!)

Re: Urban warrior CB750 build (Paint on the frame!)

So, here's my progress for this evening, some of it anyway. I also painted the other fork, rebuilt the other caliper and found an entire bag of bolts I didn't even know was missing yet... oops.

Re: Urban warrior CB750 build (Putting stuff together, finally!)

More progress tonight, some painting and some building... finally.
Built the calipers all the way, including pads. Anyone ever mount everything back on an Anti-Dive front end? Umm, it's a pain in the ass:
HPIM2879.jpg

Painted all but 2 of the engine covers, including the valve cover. I was questioning painting it at first. I think I made the right decision here:

Crankcase covers will get painted after the engine is back in the frame, right now, they're what's holding the engine up... :p

that looks awesome! good job

Re: Urban warrior CB750 build (Putting stuff together...finally!)

So I finally got more than just a few minutes in the garage today. After work this morning and lunch, I got down to business. Hung the frame up to install the new neck bearings. Had to skim cut the bearing seat areas to get them to go on, someone didn't know what they were doing last time. Stuck the swingarm on there, added the shocks, and well, just didn't stop until I had both wheels on. I just had to get this far for my own good. I know full well it's coming all the way back apart at least 2 more times, but hey, at least now I know what's needed, what's lost and I have some new motivation to keep going.

Here in the Dirty South, we hang our frames:

Possibly world record holder for clunkiest brake set-up ever, thanks Honda.

HPIM2882.jpg

That's right, we got ourselves a roller! (Sort-of)
HPIM2883.jpg

The paint job I've been looking forward to. Dupli-color anodizing red over black.

Checking out the front end with the tire on the axle just to get an idea of the look.

Another shot of the hanging roller.

Rear test fitting...

Yeah, that's a 150 in a stock 750 swinger... Cutting it close.

Re: Urban warrior CB750 build (New pics! Engine in!)

OK, well this is a first. 2 days in a row of monumental progress (for me anyway) Instead of boring everyone with a long ass intro, I'll just put the pics up and let y'all have a go at 'em.

Can we say engine in!

And all the covers are now coated with that awesome Dupli-color anodizing red paint. (4 coats each :)))
HPIM2891.jpg

Wheels all tidied up without the brake. Yes, they're 100% dry, spraying the red over black gives it a permanent "wet" look...

Wheel with the rear brake in place

For those of you wondering about rear-sets on a 750, here's mine:

These are the only thing non-Honda I got out of the junkyard. (The Ninja part of the build)

I don't even have to make a linkage for the shifter side, just have to shorten up the stock shift lever.

Re: Urban warrior CB750 build (New pics! Engine in frame!)

if im not mistaken your shift pattern is going to be GP style if you just shorten the stock shifter and dont use linkage....

Re: Urban warrior CB750 build (New pics! Engine in frame!)

Well, it was set-up GP style before, and the beauty of it is I can run it GP style or standard now. The peg to output shaft distance is just right, so either way would be comfortable. I came out lucky on that.

Re: Urban warrior CB750 build (New pics! Engine in frame!)

My79: I gotta say I'm loving that metalcast paint on this. So much so that I've been trying to work it into a project of my own. Did you see the Optimus Prime motor on Duplicolors site?

Re: Urban warrior CB750 build (New pics! Engine in frame!)

As a matter of fact I did! That's pretty much what sold me on using Dupli-color was their site with the customer pictures. I've used DC a lot in the past, but I wanted something different this time, and they definitely had the right paint. Everything painted on the bike was done with Dupli-color. I might as well be a salesman for them by the time I'm done, ha!

Re: Urban warrior CB750 build (New pics! Engine in frame!)

I'll go back to lurking after this:
you know with your axle behind the fork like that you have nearly a foot of trail? and the antidive won't be happy.

Re: Urban warrior CB750 build (New pics! Engine in frame!)

Yeah I took a look and you do have the forks in backwards.

Re: Urban warrior CB750 build (New pics! Engine in frame!)

+1, had those forks on my old bike, calipers on the back, axle on the front.

Re: Urban warrior CB750 build (New pics! Engine in frame!)

Yes, I noticed the error of my ways shortly after posting that, which a really nice way of saying, I had a blond moment. But the front is fixed now, the correct way, and everything is as it should be.

Re: Urban warrior CB750 build (New pics! Engine in frame!)

Little update: Haven't had a lot of time to work on the bike, been busy with work and this other thing called life, but I did get the chance to order a few parts that should be here within the next week or 2. New master cylinder from the Epay, new headlight ears and some custom SS Galfer brake lines. The MC and the ears should be here within 10 days, the brake lines up to 3 weeks, but at least they're on the way! Other than that, all I've got done since the last update is get the front rotors mic'd, mount the sprockets and get the lexan for the rear inner fender (going full custom see-through for that one). Should find some time in the next week to get some progress done.

Re: Urban warrior CB750 build (New pics! Engine in frame!)

The build is looking great! I really like those Pirelli Sport Demons.

Re: Urban warrior CB750 build (New pics! Engine in frame!)

If you decide down the road to go with the Sport Demons, make sure you watch the guy carefully when he mounts the tires. After everything was said and done, and the paint was already on, I noticed the tire was shifted on the wheel about 1/8" up and down. Now I have to go back and get him to break and re-set the bead and rebalance it, then repaint the damn thing. Oh well, add that to the list of crap to get done in the next month. The GTG is starting to look iffy I'm afraid to say. Damn sure gonna try to get it together by 7/29 though!

Thanks for the tip, I'll keep that in mind. :)
