Urban warrior CB750 build (It's alive!)

Urban warrior CB750 build (New pics! Engine in frame!)

That red/black combo looks absolutely evil.

Re: Urban warrior CB750 build (New pics! Engine in frame!)

Well, engine harness is in, gauges are on, speedo drive is hooked up, a few of the harness connectors are hooked up, and the front brakes are all buttoned up, minus the lines. Going to try and use the old clip-ons to save about 100$, gotta take em to work to machine the ID's out to 37mm. Still got a rear bearing to order and some headlight ears, but it's getting closer. Might just make the GTG after all.

Because I'm such a bad-ass mofo awesome machinist (I'll pause for the impending laughter) I was able to salvage my clip-ons and make them fit. Also, my SS brake lines came in today, so I'm stoked to get those hooked up. Master cylinder, rear hub bearing and headlight ears are finally getting ordered tonight. By next weekend I should have the front end completely built and the rear ready to bolt together. Pic time:

Cheap, or rather, inexpensive. Got them on EBay for I think around 65-70$ shipped. Nice set, I wish it had come with the double banjo bolt for the splitter, but fortunately I saved the old one and had already cleaned it just in case, so I just reused that. The angles for the end fittings were slightly off, but not enough to cause problems. Overall, visual impression is decent quality, nice solid fittings and crimps, thick UV rated PVC coating over the SS braids, and tight weaves. I say they were worth the money.

So now I know why they call themselves Treatland. You get treats with every purchase. Hooray for random stickers:

Now I'm just waiting on the rear hub bearing and it'll be nose to the grindstone this weekend and I SHOULD have a roller by the 4th.

Re: Urban warrior CB750 build (New parts in!)

Oh, and another present from Mr. UPS man, shiny new 14mm master cylinder (from eBay, haven't heard anything particularly bad about these so I'm gonna try it out and see).

Re: Urban warrior CB750 build (New parts in!)

Can't wait to see it next week! I like following these DOHC builds.

Re: Urban warrior CB750 build (New parts in!)

Some progress in the garage tonight, couldn't wait until this weekend to turn some wrenches.
Gauges, headlight ears, clip-ons, grips, master cylinder, switches and clutch lever all installed

Carbs bolted in, brake lines hooked up, speedo hooked up and headlight hanging by the wires

Looks like it's coming together nicely. :) I like that master cylinder.

Re: Urban warrior CB750 build (New parts in!)

Well, the plan was to get the bearing for the rear hub and work on the bike this weekend. BUT!!!! Got the hub bearing in today and couldn't wait. So I pressed the bearing in and got to work. Goal was to get it on 2 wheels, standing by itself without any cinder blocks. Well... as Larry says, Git-r-done. So I did:

Now that it's in the frame, the 150 rear really looks massive:

Just kinda mocked up with the tank and seat, getting a feel for what needs to be done with those 2:

Re: Urban warrior CB750 build (Standing up on its own!)

Wiring...is...done... Took me 3 hours, but all the connectors are connected, all the junctions are juncted, and everything is in its place. Headlight is bolted up and mounted, cables are linked up and brakes are bled. It's been a long night in the garage. Got a few more things to button up and I'll be getting real close to firing her up for the first time.

I got lucky really. After everything was said and done, I fired her up, pulled her off the choke and she idled right off the bat, although a bit low, around 600-650, so all I had to do was bump it up to around 1k and it purred like a lion.

I'll be honest: generally I'm not a fan of CB750's. Nothing personal of course. But I REALLY like what you're doing here. Keep it up man!

I told Kanticoy this story before - for some odd reason every time I go to start an engine up after a rebuild the idle gets cranked up to 2500 somehow. And of course I just want to hear a bang from the cylinder so the mufflers aren't mounted.........and I usually work on the bike at 3 am......It's become a ritual I guess.
