Victoria! Zeke's CB175 Build

The misfire is even worse than it was before. Pulled the dyna. Took it for a spin. Erratic misfire all through the rev range both cylinders.

Pulled the dyna cleaned the rotor with alcohol. Would scratches on the rotor cause the misfire? Isn't the rotor just two magnets on opposite ends? If the trigger was too close would it cause a misfire? Grease and grime on the magnet? I was told by Chris at Limeys to weld the advance open because they have had issues with the advance on and XS650 and the Dyna???

If it is the battery would I see it with a test light on the coil?

what voltage is showing across the battery while running and missing ?
are you sure it is not too rich ? have you tried leaning it out ?

Learned a very important engineering lesson yesterday at 70...you cannot eliminate the cotter pins by using locknuts on the brake stay

why not ?

RE: the axle nut caper, probably why racing organizations require mechanical restraint (cotter pin / lock wire / locking tab / whatever) of axles and other crucial threaded components...

yep possibly save a major fail if you forget to TIGHTEN IT DOWN :)
no it was tightens down I replaced the nuts with lock nuts on both stays and both nuts worked loose. The front one came off and lost the front stay dug into the pavement and ripped the brake arm out of the rearset and wrapped around the rear axel. The good news is the front 450 brake is phenomenal. It was a wild ride for 8 seconds. Kept calm put both feet out and feel very lucky for a Monday morning.

glad you didn't get hurt but you forgot to tighten something they don't just work loose that easy

Yep, I use lock nuts without any problems

Locknuts should have been fine in that application. Those nuts rarely work loose and all the cotter pins do is to stop them from falling off, so the first step is to work out why they came loose. First suspicion is that the nut wasn't tight enough.

Misfire - was it always there and the same or did it get worse and if so what did you change that may have caused it. Try a new battery and see if that fixes it.

i'm betting it needs leaned out, can't hurt to try
you are right changing the needle made throttle response very sluggish until you hit 7-9 k then it takes off and after 9500 it starts missing. It feels like it wants to keep going past 11k. I think retarding the ignition was a mistake.
