BR - this is a modern version of the AJS 7R - not QUITE correct [ I have an original ].

You can't get much more iconic 50's / '60's - but it sill doesn't suit all bikes. The Duke seems to cross eras !

A pal of mine has an original Taylor-Dow "1 and a half" seat for Rocket Gold Star - and I'm still working to get it out of him.

MODERN COPY

THE REAL DEAL

Tried out a new powder coater. He has a small oven 4'x6'x4' and specializes in small parts and getting out pieces in a day or two. I wasn't sure what to do with these covers because the chrome plating was bubbled and chipped off. Tried to hit it with a sanding disc with not much effect. So, I tried this textured finish, Silver Vein. It kind of filled in the spots where the original finish had peeled off. I'm thinking of having the right side case cover done in this finish.

Neat! I have some parts that are also flaking chrome that I'm going to have to get cleaned up.....

Good choice on the Silver Vein, I like it. That could be a cool frame color it looks like metal? I used an antique bronze on my CX500 cafe. I did the rims in sparkle silver and the spokes in the antique bronze. There is life after black.
Cheers, 50gary

Thanks! I hope I can do it justice. I love the other XV projects going on around here as well. Who woulda thought it was such a versatile platform?

any new updates? i pretty much check my email every morning hoping to see some new progress.. also i found a crashed xv the other day just needs a new front end and its good to roll, 200 bucks!!!! should i buy it? just go the same route, front end swap etc.. this would be bike number 3 in the garage.. i laugh when i said i wasnt going to start multiple projects at the same time.

I'm anxiously waiting for the XS400 gas tank I bought on ebay to arrive. Tracking says it's in Missouri. Hope not too much is involved in making it fit! $200 is tough to beat for any running bike! I was just thinking the other day as I was making some cardboard rear set brackets for the XV that a springer front end might look pretty cool!

Oh, I meant that I'd like to do another but configured like a bobber with a springer front end. Gotta keep my focus on the current XV though, before I start thinking of other projects, eh?

Mockup of xs400 tank.

Or a Boardtracker !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The thinking process is ongoing in folk like us. I'm already thinking 2-3 projects ahead. And I've only got THREE unfinished ones at the moment !

I really like that tank! Like how the angular shape of it compliments the stance of the bike and how the, never thought I should say this, brown compliments the black of the engine and gold fork and the striping the silver accents on the engine. Round it off with a tail that follows the lines of the tank and paint it to match and you are gonna have a stellar and original bike right there.

Sorry for hijacking, just have a soft spot for these. :)
