could you possibly hit me with the overall dimensions of that xs400 tank? i am debating whether or not to put it on my 450 build, but am concerned about height and length, would be a great help! thanks

I dunno, I think I'd check your riding position before anything. The bike is going to look fantastic by the way....
I think were it mine the only thing I'd do to the cowl is trim the bottom so that it tips forward just a wee bit to match the angle of the back of the tank a little better and to move it back 3-4" if need be for proper position.
Other than that...continue on my man, she's got a great figure!
Same here ! How have I not seen this yet ?? Way more aggressive than my build, mine will be somewhere between the Zero bike and Johnny Rylands bike. Man I wish I had the green for a front end conversion, that looks awsome. I was also thinking about the dual sidedraft carb set up, trim back the rubber and cover it with ss screen of some kind. Love the XS tank too.
I dont know much about carbs but the local bike mechanic i bounce ideas off of said the cheapest way to try the single carb set up is using a Harley carb, it would be jetted close enough to start up and run without much guess work. But im sure you would be using a much better quality setup.
ya $200 is a bit too much for my build. Not too crazy about the carb hanging so far out either. Might be worth trying to make one. Maybe mock one up out of PVC pipe then make it out of copper pipe? easy to solder but might be hard to find copper cheap.
I'm not sure if that is the best manifold to use from an aesthetic perspective, but it should spawn some ideas. Maybe a downdraft twin barrel or one carb each side pointing in different directions or find a way to revers the rear head and have two rear facing carbs and forward pipes like an XR750.
Keep playing with ideas. There's a right answer in there somewhere.
This manifold has got to be about the worst flowing unit I've ever seen ! It's not going to need a flow bench to see where most of the intake charge is going.
I agree re: the single carb route being a retrograde step [ for performance ], When have you EVER seen a performance application with less than one choke per cylinder ? [ Supercharged engines excepted ].
IF the OEM carbs are a problem - age, efficiency, whatever - there's plenty of alternate carbs on the market with a good reputation. I'm going with Amal Mk2 Concentrics on my TR1 Vindicator, but there's Keihin, Mikuni and Dellorto that would make good alternates. As ever, with me it was cost as much as anything - but Amal is well respected, certainly this side of the Pond.
I've followed the various single carb swaps on Virago Tech - and very few say they've had good results - MOST are still struggling. Oh yes I DID see one worse inlet design - made out of plastic plumber's tubing.
I too have read the comments on Viragotech and it made me wonder about this kit and the CycleX two carb kit for the DOHC cb750. I'm not convinced of the benefit. I was toying with the idea of taking the stock rubber intakes and turning them outwards, but I don't know if that would work at all. I haven't researched other carb alternatives but the Amal and CR appear to be a favorite with DTT'ers. What kind of pricing for the Amal 38mm?
