Yamaha XS750 -77 Budget build.

Sound like a good idea... eaven if sharing welder is OK... and keep your own gas?
We do the same, but share tools... or... everybody use mine :)
But I try to convinse the other to buy a AC/DC tig... mine wount last forever...

And ofcourse a comment on your build... I will be good looking!!

Well the problem in our garage is that there is this odd man who still think we live in the 80's who has the first hand contract on the garage, then we rent from him. He is a real character, begging for money, borrows tools and equipment and when I notice my gas is out in my little torch, then he says it might have been he who borrowed it and so on. There is also one more thing, he thinks and wants the garage to be some kind of harley club for men but we are a few roadracers (4 right now) enduro racers (3-4) some who just park their bikes and some who builds bobbers and choppers. The interest isnt there. I want to buy a new tool cart so i can lock them in.

Else it is great!

Yes, it would be nice to have your own garage, and be able to pick who could come along :)
Our is also nothing but a parkinglot for some guys... after 6 months I still haven't met everyone :)

So there has happened a few things since last.

First and biggest of all is that the subframe/hoop is welded and also some brackets for the seat. Though since we ran out of time when welding the bottom plate we made a simple version which I probably will modify to fit the frame better.

Unfortunately my (no charge) welder didn't have pipes in 25 mm so we used 22 mm instead, doest tell to much from distance but if you get in close you will se the weld and the smaller tube.

Also took the tires off my wheels and made them ready for powder coating, they look like they have been lying on the bottom of the pacific ocean for 30 years, they are in big need of a blasting and coating.

Also thinking about my paint scheme, been thinking that it would be cool with the same paint scheme as on my race bike!

Dont know how to solve it nice though. Any suggestion?

Ok, short update. Frame rewelded so the battery tray is hidden behind the frame. Now the frame, wheels, the lower forks, and some small stuff is at the powdercoater.

Cleaned and painted the engine as well, it became better than I expected.

Looks great! Looking to do mine soon as well.
Did you remove the camshaft oil pipe or were you just able to spray around it?

Thanks! I cleaned the engine with degreaser and high pressure washer three times. Then I sprayed the engine with thinner and waited for 20-30 minutes then cleaned it again.

Then i masked everything on the engine , then coated it three times with high heat rattlecan spray.

I painted the pipe. :p

I used a Swedish brand called Hagmans.

It's good for up to 650 degrees Celsius.

Everything is back from the powdercoater and the reassembly is in progress!

Getting the swingarm back tommorow and will have a rolling chassie then!

Let me know how the shocks work out for you. I put Progressive 412 shocks on mine and they are brutal. No forgiveness at all. I also like taking corners at full speed.

These are the shocks I bought. http://www.wemoto.com/bikes/yamaha/xs_750/77/picture/rear_hagon_road_shocks/ I chose the slim line with black because i hate chrome.

I weigh in at only 60kg (132 lbs) maybe 70kg (154lbs) with all racing gear on so I bought the softer ones called road shocks. But I am always looking for Öhlins suspension for it.

Got some tracktime last tuesday for the first time of the year! It was awesome!!
