More Issues!!
I had it fired up this weekend and rode it around the block. A few blocks down, it dies. Limp it back to the garage and hook up a multimeter to the battery, and it showed 18V + when it was running. Not good. Looked at the wires and noticed that the alternator wasn't grounded...
Made some more progress today... Finally got to welding on the bungs for the seat springs, chopped and re-welded the kickstand, fitted the new front master cylinder and brake line. Tomorrow I'll be welding on the brake stay tab and bar, and this one should be ready for an around-the-block...
Thanks for the feedback everyone. More support will be added, but thanks for all the concern for safety :)
My new Spiegler SS brake line and new banjo bolts showed up today. Custom made, fitted and shipped to my doorstep in 3 days. Good company.
I also ordered a clutch lever, brake lever...
Thanks! I do plan on putting in some mini-gussets where the tail tubes meet the stock frame. There were some slight gaps on the bottom. No slugs - butt-fit, so there was a lot of steel squirting to join the two. Already got a few crossbars in at the top for the tank mount, seat mount, and fake...
Been awhile since I posted on here! Been tinkering around a bit with my other two builds, which I have come to accept will be the longest builds ever. Here's another one that I'm HOPING won't drag on as long as the others.
Been itching to build a chopper, so I bought a bike and got started...
What I thought would take 30 minutes to install ended up taking most of the morning and afternoon. I should have known better...
I first mocked up the new Cycle X oil cooler with the components it came with. The adapter and filter was pretty straight forward. I must say, this is going to be a...
Signed up and got the guide. Looks like I've found the XS650 carb bible ;)
Pipes and pods are shipping this week. I hope to have the carbs pulled, cleaned, rejetted and tuned by this weekend, depending on the crappy September Seattle weather...
Hey all,
I just picked up a 77 xs650 bobber project. As far as I know, the carbs that came on this bike from the factory were Mikuni BS38s. The bike didn't come with headers or air filters, so I went ahead and bought some Uni foam filters, and some stock headers that I plan to run wide open...
Warning: Some serious bad assery ahead.
I've always dreamed a 650 bobber project. This past weekend my dreams came true. Say hello to project #3: Brown Bomber Bobber! (link to build posting soon in 'bobbers')
Welp. There goes time and money into both my 750 and 175 builds... ;D
Sick! I plan on running open pipes, or maybe just a small, home-brewed baffle - so I still might have to jet up one. I'm also running the Boyer ignition system from Mike's.
Here she is as she sits today:
Thanks Tim... Yeah just let me know... I'm comfortable with rejetting and troubleshooting carb issues, but I'm trying to keep this project as headache-free as possible (I've got 2 other active projects I'm trying to wrap up!)... With the open pipes and velocity stacks (or UNI foam filters), I'd...
