I think I am going to try to stick with the stock tank. There is some bondo on it and a decent amount of rust inside but it might be salvageable.
I got 155psi on the left and 150 on the right. A bit low but hopefully it can be solved with a valve adjustment. I might try that with the engine...
Update on the project, spent a few hours stripping it down and pulling the engine out of the frame.
Went ahead and ordered an set of Mikuni VM32s and a shockwave ignition from Common Motors. The wiring harness is in way worse shape than I remember so I think I'm going to trash it and start over...
I decided that Im going to go with CL450 parts just to make sure I have enough front brake for the bike. I did some searching on Ebay and fount a brake and wheel from a 70 CL450 that are complete and look to be in decent shape. Would that wheel work with my existing forks and axle? I know that...
Thinking about swapping to a drum brake on the front of my 73 cb450 project. The stock disk set up is in pretty rough shape and would probably need to be replaced completely. And I also like the looks of the drum and no master cylinder on the bars.
Has anyone attempted this before?
I cant...
It’s got a few oil leaks that need to be resealed, and I’m thinking about maybe some higher compression pistons or having it bored out, but mainly for reliability and knowing that everything is in good working order.
I bought this 73 CB450 in 2008 with the intention of turning it into a cafe racer. I tinkered with it a bit, and rode it here and there for a little while. It was in storage for over 10 years while I was in the army. Now I’m out and have the time and a place to work on it.
Right now I’m...
yeah I still have the whole bike sitting at my house. I was going to do something with it eventually, but now I need to fund another project. Let me know if you are interested.
Yeah, I think that they are discontinued everywhere.
Im gonna check with the local bike shop tomorrow, but I think Im gonna have to buy some used carbs off of ebay.
My carbs started overflowing on my new 73 cb450 the other day. I pulled the bowls off and the left side float was full of fuel. I was going to solder it but I found so many cracks that I am worried that it may be too heavy. I started looking and no one seems to have them in stock, and I am...
Before you start trying to chase down the short with a meter, I would give all the wiring a good once over first. Look for shoddy previous repairs, loose butt connectors, pinched wires, insulation that has been rubbed off, and stuff like that. I have wasted a lot of time on electrical problems...
By a new bike!
Another craigslist find, 73 cb450 only paid $500 and it runs pretty well. Just need to fix a coupkle things (front brake, new battery, oil leak) and it should be on the road.
I recently found a decent cb/cl450 on the local craigslist. The bike needs a little work, but the price is about right and the guy is selling a lot of extra parts with it. The one thing that worries me is what he calls the brake pivot arm(?) is broken. He recently installed a 2 into 1 exhaust...
I have a 79 yamaha xs400 that I need to get rid of to make room for another bike. I haven't really decided if I want to go through the trouble of parting it out or not. If anyone is interested in the whole bike let me know. If all you need is some parts, we can probably work something out.
I have been taking welding classes at night the last several months and now I think I know enough to give you some advice.
Stick-
Pros- easy to make very strong welds as a beginner
no gas to buy
easy to weld rusty/dirty/corroded metal
many different rods for different...
I work as an auto repair tech is a small family owned shop. I love where I work (boss doesn't care if I stay late to work on my bike). Sometimes working on old junk gets old, but the cool cars we get to work on makes up for it. We have a Ferrari 308 GTS motor on a stand being rebuilt right now...
