I'v used my 6X12 V front for quite a few years as racebike transport and storage. Single torsion axle no brakes ,I've pulled it with my '84 1/2 ton with no problems I just never get in a huge hurry.

I have coated some powder chromed parts and it does all right , although with heat cycling on engine parts I wouldn't reccommend because it will dull really quick. Hope that helps.
A machine shop can do wonders on these sort of problems and Tim is right on here, even if it comes to getting another head casting and putting your top end parts in it.
