Re: 1975 XS 650 Update 3/27
Managed to get my hands on some cheap sportbike rearsets. I used 1/4" steel plate, an angle grinder and drill press to make simple mounting plates for them. The shifter side went on first because it's a hard connection. The brake side is soft and there's a few extra inches of brake line so I figured it could go anywhere to match up the peg location to the shifter side. Both sides were finicky but they're done so now I've got a starting point from which to adjust from. I may replace them altogether but for now they're functional and only 1/2" apart vertically.
The shifter side is from an '01 GSXR 1000. I had tons of shifter linkages lying around from going racing so I just grabbed one that was about the right length. I have no frame of reference here so it went together like this knowing that I'll probably redo it all soon after riding it. The pipe prohibited the linkage to go together on the same side so I'll be running it GP shift for now. Although it doesn't look like it, the shifter clears the muffler just fine.
The brake side is from a 2003 R6 and was tricky to line up properly with the shifter side because of the rearset mounting bracket. Lots of interference here and there but it's close. Again, since I have no frame of reference, it got put together like this and I'll see if I like it. The brake switch was causing all kinds of problems so I tossed it and replaced it with a banjo bolt switch from Mike's XS. For $11, it was an easy decision.
