I recently bought this project off Craigslist for $100. Previous owner had started a bare bones cafe(?) conversion and lost interest. Whatever it turns out to be it should be fun. I'm trying to keep it low budget.

I picked up a 19" front wheel to replace the 21" that had a flat spot off EBAY for $20. I'm not sure if I will keep the clipons (TIG'd by previous owner) and may go with a higher bar mounted in the original location on the triple trees. Expansion pipe was built by previous owner. I added a Toomey silencer. ($59 from Toomey locally, Paso Robles, CA. Bike came without carb so I bought a Keihin PWK28 from a 2006 Kawasaki KX85 (EBAY for $60). Frame has been chopped of unneeded brackets. Aluminum seat cowl was built by the P.O.

It is California registered and street legal...sorta. I will be re-installing the gauges, lights, etc. Oil injection has been eliminated as well as the battery. It fires right up and runs great. Still haven't taken it for a test drive. Waiting on some new rubbers.

It has a lot of work left and I am slow at these things, so be patient with me, it's my first build. I will probably have more than a few questions along the way.

much respect,

Here is another view. The previous owner CAD designed and fab'd it so it is what it is. $100 for the whole bike...i
have zero complaints.

I can't wait to take it out. Never had a 2 stroke before, unless you count my weed wacker.

The clip ons look so right. What kind of electrical set up are you going to use? Are you going to stay batteryless?
I like this lean build, very Zen.

This is a great project. I agree: swap out the front wheel, throw some rubber on it and enjoy the shit out of it. I don't think I'd touch anything else!

Hey undrtw... Take a few hours and check this book out^^^^^
Thanks for that ^^^^^^^^ and thanks for the kind words all other members.

I considering leaving the battery out and running a small rechargeable battery pack to power LED signals/brake light. I haven't worked out the details on the electrical.

Any recommendations on tires? I believe the originals were 3.00x19 and 3.50x18. Looking at Bridgestone Spitfires (90/90H/19 & 100/90H/18) or possibly Shinko 244 (2.75x19 & 3.50x18). I'm open to suggestions and haven't researched much.

I used avon roadriders, they were good had a cool tread and pretty good grip, I used 90/90/18s

I wasn't in love with the tail or the clip-ons. I wacked off the ass end (Don't qoute me on that) and I am working on a new rear cowl, possibly with a CBR tail light. I have some Renthal "Streetfighter" bars showing up tomorrow, as well as some Shinko SR244 tires and various other bits scheduled for Wednesday. This may be taking a turn in a different direction.

I think that tail fits the tank better. You may want to consider widening th rear hump to cover the rear sub frame ends I think it will make it look cleaner. This thing is Bad asss!!! Keep it up!

I have to say I really liked the original direction you were going in, sheer rawness, all it needed was some padding on the seat, rear sets, a smaller front wheel with some kind of brakeage, tidy tyres and what ever lip service to legality is required for where you live.............. job done. To me this all ready has been inspiring, but each to our own and you are probably riding it on different road surfaces to the ones I can imagine it being used on.

Actually, the roads around here are fairly rough and don't get the attention they need (washed out, pot holes, dirt, gravel, etc.). Highways are fine but the rest leaves much to be desired.

I threw on some cheap ass Shinko tires...(see the bike of the month). SR244 in 2.75"x19 front/rear 3.5"x18) "Golden Boy" printed on the side wall so the must be the tits! Pulled the clip-ons and put on a set of Renthal "street fighter" bars. They should fit the purpose of this bike a bit better for my local. I may reuse the clip-ons to mount the head light.

I cut the rear off the seat that came with it and i am working on a new cowl. I also cut the rear frame hoop down more. Seat pan is .050" and the new tail cowl is .063". I'm going to braze? the 2 sections together with a propane torch and some magic aluminum sticks my father-in-law gifted me. I forget the name of them (Made for Al boat repair etc.) I tested them on scrap and it seems easy enough. I have no access to TIG. If it fails well FnCK it all to HeLL i try some fibreglass.

Anyways, here are some pics.
