1983 Honda 750 Nighthawk

No issue...I'm lucky, my mate has a bead roller which is handy ;)

My seat is with the trimmer....he's covered the tank pad...

Thanx....it's suede, what was left over from William F1 race team, they used it then changed to Alcantera because it's lighter, yes really. The seat pad will continue the block pattern too.
Sorry, chickenstrip don't mean to hijack your thread :)

No no, the more the merrier. That looks awesome.

I'm actually thinking I'd like alcantera or suede as my seat too. I got biltwell thruster grips in chocolate and I think a brown seat to match would look great.

Everything around here is so damn expensive so I still have to work out my budget and see.

Thanx. Here's the seat unit with 15mm yoga mat, doubled up to 30 as the foam pad. I shaped and formed the alloy seat pan.

Here's a budget idea for a seat....pay a visit to your local car dismantlers yard and cut out the stitched leather upholstery of a wrecker's interior, front or backseat could work.....if the stitch patterns work out, it could be home done and could look OK with factory stitching to make it look a pro job?

I bought a shit load of under carpet rebond foam from Home Hardware for $30 CAD. Which I ended up getting for free because of some almighty fuck up on their side which left me waiting like an idiot at the checkout for 45 mins. Still, free's free.

Plan is to layer it up (it's 1/2" thick) and have at it with an electric carving knife. I'll take Maritime's advice and add a top layer of neoprene/kneel mat foam for added support and comfort.

Sounds good ... is the rebond stuff firmer than stock seat foam or softer?

Also, got a pic of the kneel pad? The ones I've seen here are tiny, like 10x8 or so which wouldnt be ideal as I'd like it to be 1 piece

Charlie. I just put the kneeling pad under where my arse will be. On a 2 up put it under both. I cut it out and layer it flat with the other foam as the last layer. I put a pic in my gl thread and shared it in jims

it has to be the right stuff. Closed cell squishy. Some or most pads are madenout of the same foam as the puzzle piece stuff

Depending on the cover, putting a final layer of ~4mm neoprene foam over the whole thing would help thinner upholstery material look smoother. Wouldn't add significalt feel or bulk, just smooth it out. If your trimmer adds a liner to the upholstery, it probably wouldn;t matter. To my bottom, the carpet padding is just a touch firmer than most Honda seats, which is good as they are a bit soft. I rebuilt areas of an old K&Q seat for my '78 rescue, and can't tell the transition sitting on it. Find an carpet installer or carpet warehouse and you can often get large scraps for free. If it has a mesh backing, they come off pretty easy.

Gotcha! What glue you using? I tried a brush on adhesive once on some foam/styrofoam and it melted the material.

I got super 77 spray stuff, but thinking brush on might be better for gluing foam?

You paint the seat pan or powder coat before all the foam work?

In proper covid style I'll be using what I've got in the garage as much as possible. I've got some Gorilla spray adhesive which I think'll do the job - I'll try a sample and see what gives. Yeah, I'll paint the underside of the pan - mine is steel and will rust otherwise.

Quick coat of paint before we start fathers day activities here for the day. Had good results with VHT chassis paint before so that's what we're going with. Satin black.

That should be perfect for the pan. Looks great. I did fathers day yesterday. Im alone in a hotel with maybe 4 other guests in it lol. Decomissioning our old terminal so had to be here a few days to supervise a few folks

Looking good mate. It's interesting watching you make your pan as I make mine - I mucked about with some foam today and I'm pretty happy with the firm/comfy factor. I ended up binning the gorilla adhesive as my mate said it was shit and gave me a can of 3M 77 instead. That stuff's the dogs bollocks.

I'll add a thin layer of neoprene/yoga mat on top but this foam is definitely a win.
