What did Triumph/BSA fit in the base of the OIF frame? Was that just a screen or did they fit a real filter in there?

Just a screen, in conjunction with the sludge trap in the crank.

There is an easy retrofit filter cartridge, "Charlies", or any number of remote spin-on filter upgrade kits.

Thanks, I have not worked on any OIF models.

Pity the sludge trap is so inconvenient to service. Honda developed that idea and fitted a centrifugal filter in the clutch cover to do the same thing but it's accessible and serviceable.

Just got word that Morrie's has my Paint work on my tins finished up... It's a 3 hr drive to pick them up so... might be a week or more to carve out a whole day to round trip a drive to get them.

Primary side of the engine will get done tonight... no more missing parts to order for the engine so that might actually be ready for covers and get moved to the frame by the weekend.

Primary side done! Next session will tidy up a few loose ends and get the cover on and move the engine into the frame. I need to square away the wheels so that they don't need to come back off.

You may want to fashion a hard wire stand-off for the alternator cables to keep them clear of the primary chain, or it could saw through them. You can bolt it to the clip that holds the sprocket oiler tube.

I've got some stainless wire I might spiral wrap around that harness and do just that... there's more clearance than it looks in that pic but I hear what you are sellin'.

Ya, probably not necessary, it lasted 47 years without wiring it up. Looking good.

The transmission / timing gear side is near ready to button up. I couldn't resist installing the badge on the timing gear cover.

Having primary share oil with motor causes less problems than the totally crap breather system which provides perfect external oiling.
Breather isn't as bad as a HD and won't destroy crankcase when it stops working but it sure aint great. A replaceable oil filter conversion has been available for at least 25 yrs, maybe longer? If you have a primary chain shedding pieces, something isn't lined up right and/or it's a crappy chain. I no longer work on Triumph motors but it doesn't mean I've never worked on them.

Oh.. ho.. ho.. ho.. good day today... I took the day off and ran up to Morrie's Place up in Ringwood, IL and picked up my paint job... very pleased... this bike is gonna be suhweet! I also picked up a new set of Amal 930 Premier carbs while I was there....

Ooooooh! That's some very pretty tinware! No wonder you are having a good day!

Fantastic paint.

This project is moving along nicely!

Thanks... Paint couldn't have turned out better. They used Hutchinson paint colors on it, so the colors are right.

High level punch list (Mostly for me to organize...)
* Get the fenders mounted
* Add Tail light
* Engine covers on
* Wheels sorted for final fixture
* Install Lower engine half
* Add Head and rocker boxes
* Mount battery box and oil tank
* Mount Coils and Boyer Ignition
* Install wiring harness
* Static time
* Install handlebar controls and Gauges
* Order cables (Speedo/Tach/Throttle/Air) and Route them
* Install Carbs
* Install chain / add switch to chain guard / Install chain guard
* Add Decals (Pos Earth / Land speed / air filter / Swing arm)
* Plumb oil and fuel lines
* Install Tank
* Add fuel and oil and cross my fingers and try to start it.

We'll see how much of that I can get done before permanent cold arrives.

You'll want to do the oil tank & battery tray BEFORE installing the engine, gives you room to work.

Okay good to know.

Btw, where are you guys mounting your Rec/Reg at? I was figuring mount it to the bottom of the battery box. But am unsure as the harness would be setup to use the big ass zener under the headlamp. Advice would be appreciated there.
