72 CB750: Dolores... 5 years later, I'm back to work!

Re: Alex's 72 CB750 Project Dolores: I Get By With a Little Help From My Friends

Okay, but only if we get to wear our Sponge-Bob Bannana Hammocks! I'll have to get waxed of course...
No trophies. They handed out medals for everything but first. But I'm stoked! The bike I came in second behind was the cleanest Triumph Tiger Cub I've ever seen. The dude had like ten large in this thing. I would have eaten off of the engine. He only had like 30 miles post resto. I don't have any pics from the show, but Twisted and my buddy Clint took some so I'll have to get them to send me some. Also Uncle Bob was there with his Dual-Franken-Sport-Bad-Mother-Fucker-Oh-My-God-That-Thing-Is-Cool Custom Bike. He took third place in the "Mild Custom" class! They had talked about giving him his money back because they didn't know what class to put it in! Awesome. It was a great time and Dolores is finished! Finally. Here are a few pics of her in the garage. I'll post up some pretties later today. I'm going to run down to Fort Morgan and try to recreate some of the shots Twisted took of her when she was orange. I may also try to do something with this south Alabama photo-tag thing I keep hearing about...

On another note: I've got to get rid of some projects. I'll show you a pic of my garage.

Now that Rob's got the 87 Honda TLR200 he doesn't want the rebel 250 bobber anymore.

I'm cool with that, because he's always ridden dirt bikes. So The rebel has to go. I got a free goldwing off of a local forum. It has to go. I've got my 68 cb350 project with spare motor and carbs and lots of other stuff. It has to go. So I'm gonna post a craigslist ad today. If any of you guys want any of these let me know. The goldwing will be free and the others will be close to free.

Re: Alex's 72 CB750 Project Dolores is DONE... for now.

Lemme know the details on the CB350 and associated bits! Not sure how Ill get em' to PA but more 350s sounds awesome to me!

Re: Alex's 72 CB750 Project Dolores is DONE... for now.

wow.... nice all around mann...

Re: Alex's 72 CB750 Project Dolores is DONE... for now.

What I really like about Dolores is that "thick chick" look, while she stays built for speed. That's how a woman bike should look, voluptuous with all the right curves!

Re: Alex's 72 CB750 Project Dolores is DONE... for now.

WHAT!!!!! how can he start a project and not finish it! i would make his ass finish the 250, if not that is how partial projects pile up all over... got to say now that i can see the whole bike man, the paint is really growing on me! the tank is no doubt insane but the overall picture of it looks great!!!

Re: Alex's 72 CB750 Project Dolores is DONE... for now.

Bike looks great. If I was closer I'd be taking that goldwing off your hands.

Re: Alex's 72 CB750 Project Dolores is DONE... for now.

Well shoot Alex, I might be really interested in the 350... I am looking for a small project. Maybe I can pick it up at barber... go with a new plan that involves driving out there in a truck and bringing it back or something along those lines.

Re: Alex's 72 CB750 Project Dolores is DONE... for now.

Dude I just sold the 350! Sorry bro. It went to the south alabama motorcycle society. We're going to do a team rebuild then raffle it off and donate the proceeds to charity.
I've also decided that I hate the green. More to come...

Re: Alex's 72 CB750 Project Dolores is DONE... for now.

AWESOME... what about flat red?! and gloss black or flat black accents... ill pm you!

Re: Alex's 72 CB750 Project Dolores is DONE... for now.

Hmmm... Joe maybe on to something here... Now instead of two I have three new paint schemes to be considering!

Re: Alex's 72 CB750 Project Dolores is no longer done... :(

She's going back under the knife. A small oil leak around the sprocket has opened up all of a sudden. From a trickle to where the fuck is my oil?!? I had hoped to not have to mess with this until winter, but I noticed that the leak had gotten bad this morning. No more riding for me until this is fixed. Also the paint bubbled up around the front of my tank. It's just a small spot, but then I realized that it's a leak on the seam of the tank. Fuck beans! So I've got to fix that and do a repaint as well. I'm sure I'll figure out other things to do while she's down. So here we go again. Shit.

Re: 72 CB750: Dolores is no longer done...

It never ends brother! Looking forward to seeing what ya come up with.

And I still need your paypal info man!

Re: 72 CB750: Dolores is no longer done...

Man, that sucks! It's a never ending battle.

Re: 72 CB750: Dolores is no longer done...

Yep. Thanks guys. And mike I'll try to remember to take that tank to work tomorrow and get it all ready to ship out. As the remodel process has begun I've started to realize that I'm going to have to get rid of a lot more junk than I initially thought. Anybody need any parts? Wheels? cb750 sohc parts? brake parts? Airboxes? Anything?

Re: 72 CB750: Dolores is no longer done...

How exactly does one....fuck beans?

Sorry to hear you're having issues, but these old girls will definitely tell you in no uncertain terms, when something needs to be addressed.

Re: 72 CB750: Dolores is no longer done...

Yeah, she let me know alright. I bought a set of every oil seal on the bike. It should be here today or tomorrow. Then I've got to get my front brake issues worked out. I'm going to leave the tank issue alone for a bit. The leak is right at the topw near the neck and really all it does is vent fumes a little.

Re: 72 CB750: Dolores is no longer done...

Okay it's been a while now and I've done some more work that I never posted here for some reason (life!). So here's an update!
I had to pull some bondo off to fix my fuel leak so when I re-bondoed I brought it up a little bit to eliminate the seam around the neck.

100_3305.jpg

And she got a new color... And I like it! It's Rustoleum appliance epoxy in the almond color. As usual the paint was sprayed by my buddy and our rattlecan guru: TwistedWheelz.
100_3307.jpg

100_3309.jpg

Also polished up my custom top triple clamp. I like polishing stuff!
100_3311.jpg

And I installed the sprocket cover from way back.
100_3315.jpg

Here she is all done up.

Also while at Kiley's house for Barber's Doug (beatnic) gave me a front brake clinic! With big help from Kiley (Thanks a million for the seal dude) we got her together and I'm happy to say that I've had no problems whatsoever from my brake. Here are a few pics from Barber's.

And Dolores at the front of the lineup!
100_3323.jpg

I know it's been a month, but that was an amazing trip. I highly reccomend attendance next year. What a blast!
I'm going to be doing some more paint work, motor work, and new tires (Thanks Twisted and Eileen) in the next few months.
I've come to the realization that this project won't be done until I get another one to work on... And I have found it already! All I'm gonna say is airhead.

Re: 72 CB750: Dolores has a new color... Again.

I've come to the realization that this project won't be done until I get another one to work on...

I call BS. Its never 'done'. Nice color all the same. ;D

Re: 72 CB750: Dolores has a new color... Again.

The bike is looking great, I like the new color a lot more. And btw, I am really jealous of the Reflex, I want an old trials bike really bad.
