Re: 73 CB200 straight up Cafe racer!! "Smokey"??!!
Alright! Got some stuff done today. Motor is in. My CL Exhaust arrived. Its in great shape but I don't like it for this bike, I want the engine to stand out. I'll hear your thoughts but I'm pretty sure its for sale. Let me know if anyone's interested.
Re: 73 CB200 straight up Cafe racer!! "Smokey"??!!
I like those pipes! I say paint the guard the same black color of the motor and it will all tie in nicely! Also recut the end to follow the line of the end of the guard! Should look killer, but you may want some baffles! It will be loud!
Re: 73 CB200 straight up Cafe racer!! "Smokey"??!!
Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the heat shield is mounted upside down!
Those pipes look really clean Diesel! I think they accentuate the motor - not distract from it. Why not pull the heat shield off all together and show off the chrome?
Re: 73 CB200 straight up Cafe racer!! "Smokey"??!!
It's hard to tell...I like the pipes! But I think you should get some wheels on that thing, slap a tank and your sweet seat on there for a mock up to get a better idea of the big picture.
Re: 73 CB200 straight up Cafe racer!! "Smokey"??!!
That exhaust def looks awesome I wouldn't touch that shield, people always wanna repeat colors on their bike and it results in this sort of checkerboarding of colors. Keep it like it is IMO.

Thanks guys, They are great pipes and in fantastic shape but I'm still leaning the other way. We'll see. I should have the wheels on pretty soon so we'll get a better look at the stance. Tank is in primer and I STILL have not glassed the seat up yet. : lots to do tomorrow.
On a fun note a guy called me today to do a cafe/cruiser conversion on an old Goldwing!! This is the pic he sent me as reference. pretty cool!
Re: 73 CB200 straight up Cafe racer!! "Smokey"??!!
I second that! The wheels look REALLY GOOD! are they trued up perfect? I wanted to take apart my wheels and paint them while apart but I was afraid of truing them. maybe next time..
Re: 73 CB200 straight up Cafe racer!! "Smokey"??!!
Funny, the tires are way more out of round than the wheels. The wheels are within a 1/16th of an inch both top to bottom and side to side. Put the front tire on today and it looks horribly out of round, but everything I read says that is pretty normal and is what wheel balancing is all about, we'll see. I'll be taking it slow at first to be sure things are good.
I think wheels are something guys don't do because it seems a bit scary but it makes such a huge difference. This bike is going to look brand new when I'm done and it wouldn't if I didnt do the wheels.

Bikes starting to come together. I'll get over to the shop and get some pics for you later. I got the tank painted. I had purchased a rattle can of duplicolor "storm grey" that was on closeout for $3 just to get a bead on the color I wanted. It was perfect and the paint laid so well on the tank that I went back and bought 2 more cans, enough to finish the seat as well and have enough for another bike I'm working on. I'm going to clear coat it but I saved myself about $60 this way.
I finally glassed my seat. I was too anxious and rushed through it and there are some problems. : I didn't let the gel coat tack up enough before moving forward and the mat pulled it away from the mold in several places. nothing a little filler won't fix though. I also didn't put enough layers in and it was a little flimsy. So, I went back and layered in some strength and it should be great! I will be more careful and work slowly next time for sure. It will pop out of the mold finished. Oh, one little tip I picked up from a composites guy; If you are having trouble getting your part out of the mold drill a small hole through the mold and use compressed air to pop it out. Worked like a charm. You then just patch the hole up with filler for the next part.
I'm looking for two items!! - I need a straight shift lever and an undented, scratched or otherwise unmarred clutch adjuster cover for this bike. Anybody got em kicking around??!!
Re: 73 CB200 straight up Cafe racer!! "Smokey"??!!
Can't wait to see this thing put together!
Assuming the shifters are the same between the 175's and 200's, I can take a look around tomorrow. Don't know what to tell you about the clutch adjuster though.

Hey, I'm outta town for the next few days so I cant do the promised pics, so just hang in there. :
question?; any jetting advice? I'm currently running the stock Keihin roundslides. They have an 88 main jet. I'm switching to Uni pods and ordered a set of 95 mains on impulse to tack on to a larger order but I haven't really given it much thought.
