Re: 73 CB200 straight up Cafe racer!! "Smokey"??!!
Doing the valves this weekend then the top end will go back together. If the spokes would get here from Thailand I could have this thing wrapped in two weeks.
Thanks guyz! Metallic smoke gray on the tank and seat coming soon.
Re: 73 CB200 straight up Cafe racer!! "Smokey"??!!
Okay steady progress. I got the mold done yesterday. I have pics of the gel coat stage but none later as I had a mishap where some acetone ended up in my left eye, Yeah, ouch. I did have glasses on but the acetone splashed up and under them. After about 20 minutes flusing my eye in the sink I was back at work. Eye was pretty tender last night so I soaked it in Vodka and it feels a lot better today!
Plug with parting film applied;
2 coats of waxed gel coat with one layer of mat applied;
yours truly sans glasses. This was earlier, when I got to the resin coat something told me to get the glasses a fat lot of good that did, WEAR GOGGLES!!!
And lastly the logo I will be rockin on the tank;
Carpy wants $30 bucks for these and I couldn't find them anywhere else so I drew my own. Cleaned it up in photoshop and found a decal maker to do them for me for about $15 for the pair. IF they work out I'm going to order some sets and will have them if anyone wants a pair.

Thanks! I'm pretty happy with the seat shape. I designed it to mimic the tank. I shaped it by hand and found out that going from a ractangular shape to a rounded shape took quite a bit of re-working. Its not perfect but I got it close enough that nothing jumps out at you, and with a tail light mounted in the seat that should hide any imperfections in the back.
I lapped the valves and got the tank in primer this week. I've been a bit gun shy about the resin since my "incedent" but I am going to get the seat made this weekend.
Spokes arrived from Thailand so I can get the wheels built as well. Turn signals arrived from Hong Kong things are coming together! I realized that I forgot to order rear brake shoes so that needs to be done. And I haven't even thought about the wiring so I'm sure things will come up there. I'll have some pics up this weekend.

Another one of those moments...... if I would've kept my mouth shut I'd have an answer. They came in the mail shortly after I asked! They are a little too small for what I have going on now, but what are they off of originally?
Thanks bro! It's cool getting unexpected packages in the mail!

How many pages is your thread? Over how many months?? :
I am making progress albeit at a little bit slower pace. I'm trying to finish the R5 up and I think I'm going to strip the tank and start over on that paint job. I think I finally have the "feel" of how to lay the clear but my second go after the leak fiasco does not look great so I think I have to re-do it again. I also took in a little bit of service work and am busy getting other bikes running and on the road.
I did get the hubs cleaned up today and I sprayed the insides of them Black the outsides will be polished. Rims cleaned up really well and I have the spokes, so once the paint cures I can build the wheels. The valve job is done. I just need to spray the head and the motor can go back together then its the punch list.
I will get some pics up soon. Hey Von, How did the whole Build off with Louie come about? I missed that.
Re: 73 CB200 straight up Cafe racer!! "Smokey"??!!
Yikes, might have a problem. :-[ I am getting ready to put the top end back on the motor and today I realized I never ran through the gears when I reassembled the bottom end. So, today I gave it a go. down into first no problem, up into neutral no problem. go for second, click... nothing. Won't move out of neutral. Now, I don't have the ability to apply the clutch at this point. Is that it? or should I be able to move the tranny through the gears? There is no oil in the case either. Not sure what to do here. Any ideas. Its not the end of the world if I have to split the case again BEFORE i a put the top end back on.
