Re: 73 CB200 straight up Cafe racer!! "Smokey"??!!
Haven't posted in a while but I have been getting stuff done.
I figured out the cam chain situation, its a DID endless chain the main link is a friction fit so that solves that. Also it means this thing has had some work done at some point in the past.
I got the paint booth finished and it works great!
Its not much to look at but keeps the dust out. Also the way its set up I can actually wheel a whole bike in there if need be.
I got the cylinder head painted and a buch of the frame bits painted. ALso got the frame stripped and the seat plug just about finished. I've got a buddy who makes surf boards he's going to hook me up with some glass materials on the cheap.
I should have this all ready to go back together by the end of next week!!
Re: 73 CB200 straight up Cafe racer!! "Smokey"??!!
Project PBR yeah. I like the paint booth. I may try my hand at that someday. I see duplicolor has a video tutorial on making one on their website. Keep it up.

I did not know that about the duplicolor website. I'll have to check that out. I took my cues from Joe and Zonda here.
I'm at the point where it starts to be fun now so things should move quickly!
BigR I learned about dropping shit down in the motor when I put a cam shaft and lifters in a 72 Pontiac. I dropped a lifter down into the motor, it made it all the way to the bottom of hte oil pan and that is where it stayed. Any time I cornered hard you could hear the lifter rolling around in the pan, clunk, CLUNK, CLick..
Re: 73 CB200 straight up Cafe racer!! "Smokey"??!!
Yeah, I have one of those magnetic pickup/inspection tools from Craftsman but the magnet is so big around that I couldn't fit it into the bottom of the motor without some dissassembly. But I was cleaning out my tool box and found one of those neo-dymium magnets (whatever they're called) and need to figure out how to hook it up to a string or wire.
Re: 73 CB200 straight up Cafe racer!! "Smokey"??!!
Quick update. Lots of little things getting done, mostly working on the plug for my seat mold and figuring out what sorts of products I need to produce it. I'm ready to make the mold now though so that will happen as soon as I get a free moment. I'm also getting the motor back together in the next day or two. I'm waiting to paint the frame as I need to make an electronics tray and I want that to mimic the shape of the seat, so I need to wait until I have the seat to make that so that will be a little while longer. I'll post pics when all that is done.
So, I get a call on Thursday from a guy who says, "I hear you work on bikes. I've got a 78' CB550 Four that I want to get rid of." SO, I go look at it, bikes complete but the top end is off and in a box. But the bike is clean. all the chrome is mint the tank repainted with no dents. I asked him what he wanted he told me to just take it. I made him take $50 so I wouldn't have to feel guilty. Not sure what I'm going to do with it yet. I may part it out or I may just flip it, or maybe do the rebuild and then sell?
Re: 73 CB200 straight up Cafe racer!! "Smokey"??!!
I bought my cb500 for $400 and it was done up 70's chopper style, keep the bike, these small four's are really simple, light and nice to work on and real gems once done right.

I know, we got very little snow this year and its been warm. I actually rode a few days a week or so ago, temps around 50 or so.

wish I had the dough to pick this up right now. :-\
This is definitely a back burner project. Or someone makes me a reaonable offer and its gone! :-*
Re: 73 CB200 straight up Cafe racer!! "Smokey"??!!
Theres a large group of folks out there who prefer the 500 to the CB750. Its lighter, handles better (once you replace the bunk rear shocks), is easier to work on, and almost as fast. Plus its a wet sump, so no oil tank, which means cleaner lines. Anyhow, nice get bud! And you ME guys dont need titles either! Lucky dog.
My old 72 K1:
Never did finish it completely. It barely felt any heavier than the 350 when Id wheel it around the shop. Too wide for my tastes though.

I got my std pistons for my CB500 from canada including rings etc for £ 80.00 seems bit silly paying all that just for a 550 kit when it would be cheaper to pic up second hand top end in good nick. Just my thoughts
Cant remember where that was it was acouple of years ago got loads of jets as well. Have a look at his e bay link though lots of 500 /550 stuff.

Re: 73 CB200 straight up Cafe racer!! "Smokey"??!!
Small update. I was going to wait for a frame with engine back in it shot but things are taking longer than they should so I'll give you a little teaser.
Color is a bit off in this crappy pic. Its more of a dark red than orange. Bars will be shortened slightly and the rear shocks will be replaced with beefier ones off a 550K
I also have the tank stripped and primed. The seat plug is done and I'm ready for the mold stage. Just waiting on the weather for that.
