Silver solder.

I've got some for cable ends. Would I use a torch or an iron for brass? Don't have much experience w/ brazing

oops yep sorry bud. i got my threads mixed up.
Since I've been following 360 threads/builds I do the same thing, get confused ;D (particularly since most 360 owners post in most 360 threads 8) )

Upon further inspection of left carb, there appears to be a hairline crack at the base of interior section of the drain tube (inside the carb). I set up the bowl and filled it with fuel, sure enough it's draining when it shouldn't be. You can see the crack below.

Assuming these are pressed in fittings, my chances of getting a new fitting is probably slim. Jb weld? eBay for a new bowl?

That explains the lack of fuel on the left. Now for the right.

I've never been able to get that tube out without destroying 'something' ;)

Re: '74 CB 360 Cafe Build - Boomerang

Started to silver solder, found 2 other cracks. Gonna grab another bowl off eBay for peace of mind

Re: '74 CB 360 Cafe Build - Boomerang

Leaky bowl fixed. No more fuel drips. Making some more headway on the wiring, just about got that wrapped up. Been traveling during the week for work so only got a couple of days a week to dedicate to the beast.

She still isn't giving me anything when kicking her over, not even a sputter. Maybe I set the valve clearances wrong. Will recheck when I get back on Friday.

Meanwhile I brought my soldering iron and LEDs so I'll be building a tail light this week, hotel style.

points opening (plug sparking) on compression stroke?

I set the valves & timing using LT (TDC) after intake valve on left side lifts, points breaking and plugs are sparking as normal.

I am running kickstart only. Any special cold starting procedure? It seems as though there's a lack of fuel. Carbs are spotless clean. A vacuum leak could be causing insufficient air/fuel mixture intake into the cylinders. ???

Re: '74 CB 360 Cafe Build - Boomerang

Give it half a dozen kicks and then pull the spark plugs. They should be visibly wet.

Re: '74 CB 360 Cafe Build - Boomerang

Cold start, when it's cold. Full choke, ZERO throttle, 5~6 kicks.
If it doesn't start, FULL throttle, full choke1~2 kicks
If it still won't go, you'll have to dry out plugs ;D
You could also have a blocked reserve tank filter (or missing, damaged, etc)

Before I re cleaned carbs, plugs were dry as a bone. When I get back I will check.

PJ - I replaced then petcock with a new one since then inlet was damaged on the one that came with the bike.

Seems that fuel into the carbs is normal, but into the cylinders is questionable. If there was any fuel getting in there and spark, I should at least be getting some popping.

Re: '74 CB 360 Cafe Build - Boomerang

did you bench sync these carbs w a couple paper clips? Do that.

Turn idle speed adjuster til theres just a bit of crack of light to shine beneath butterflies. bout 1mm or less would probably do.

did you clean the A/F and pilot circuits...thoroughly? The pilot is a total pita.
Then turn both A/F adjusters all the way in to GENTLY bottom then out 2 turns.

I would think that would get her close enough to fire off pretty easy. Maybe even without the choke. Dont open the throttle at all. She will flood. If she does flood "Like PJ said, pull and dry plugs" w plugs out...Open choke and throttle all the way and give her a few kicks to help clear out fuel on top of pistons.

Park her on center stand.

When she does fire up. adjust idle to 14k or so. to keep her running (to start with)

It will speed up a bit as she warms up. 5-10 minutes of idling.

Once shes really good and hot, running 10 minutes or so, tune, 1200 idle/A/F until shes right.

Re: '74 CB 360 Cafe Build - Boomerang

Carbs were bench synced before I last had her running, I double checked em with something, might've been my pocket scale (tad less than 1mm thick). I cleaned all circuits thoroughly, but I'll go back and recheck pilot circuit for cleanliness.

Have done a/f adjusters as you said, But I set them to 2 1/2 turns out.

I thought she'd be close enough to fire up too

Re: '74 CB 360 Cafe Build - Boomerang

floats set? anywhere from 19-21mm will get fuel to the jets, to get her started. (Then you can adjust accordingly after shes running and you see what you got.)

If the carbs are set up as you say. Shes got enough fuel and air to fire.

I would double check timing next. Ensure you got both plugs sparking when they need too.

Battery is good and fully charged? No lights on while kicking her over.

Re: '74 CB 360 Cafe Build - Boomerang

Yep, floats are at 20mm.

When I get back this weekend, going to put the battery back on the charger for a good bit and recheck the timing. All lights off while starting. Battery could be a bit weak from testing wiring, but last time i checked it with the multimeter i was somewhere over 12.5v

Re: '74 CB 360 Cafe Build - Boomerang

You did check pilots are correct ones? Aftermarket don't work properly until they are modified to genuine Kei-Hin spec
Also check the primary main jet emulsion tubes, they are often (very often :( ) corroded and oxidised

I don't want to ask what your hand is leaned up against.

Do those just press out, toward the bowl?

Re: '74 CB 360 Cafe Build - Boomerang

Yeah, chopstick or wood dowel through the top push down on it, should pop out.

They had a bit of corrosion, nothing like in PJs picture. Cleaned them up and tossed em back in.
