Alright, finally going to start this build thread.... This is my buddy's bike that I am getting going and modding for him. It's been sitting for a few years at least (not exactly sure how many). It probaby isn't going to end up standard tracker, but it will definitely be closest to this category. Here are some before shots. It came to me in pieces so that is how the before shots are.... Actually not in too bad of shape to start with, compared to the other bikes I've built
I've started working on it already, I'll try and get some new pics posted tonight or tomorrow.
~Stout
It even starts and runs! I checked that out before I tore into it. All it needed was a battery, the carbs cleaned and some fresh gas... gotta love the old Hondas
Here are some updated shots. I found some stainless steel appliance paint that matches the color of the renthal bars perfectly!
Painted the engine wrinkle black. I put new screws in both side covers too, but haven't snapped any pictures of that yet.
I took the frame to the blasters/painters this morning, should get it back next week sometime. But I have this week off, so time to get a bunch of other stuff ready! I'll be posting some updated pictures as the week goes by. ~ stout
Nice very clean original cb360 i have one that i made cafe/flattracker style and my uncle cafebelan aslo did one we are still tweaking and playing this winter great bikes....have any questions let me know
What is the "plan" for this one? Small tracker seat and high bars and maybe both pipes up the right side with flat side and front plates or an integrated seat and side plates sort of thing?
Maybe a centrally mounted (high) tacho to emphasize the race look and a small digital speedo - say a bicycle unit on the triple clamp or the bars. Dump the electric foot and go with kickstarter, tiny headlight. Maybe simple on-off switch on the right bar and wires through the bars.
As long as it looks clean and simple it should work.
hmm... What's the plan with this one? Well, I'm going for a vintage motocross, flat track, cafe'd, retro-mod... honestly I don't really know how to classify it Simple, clean, and on a budget fit it best. I am reusing the original gauges and headlight (but I lowered it and the guages about an inch becuz it seemed like it needed it). The seat pan will be the original steel but modified to just bolt on instead of hinge open and so it fits the modified frame hoop that was shortened up a couple inches.
As of right now, I'm planning on using the original head pipes and most of the stock mufflers. I've started cleaning up the mufflers... I removed the seam on the top and bottom and shortened them up a little bit. But who knows, I might end up putting high pipes on it. Right now I am just trying to get all the parts I know I am using cleaned up and painted.
Here is what I have gotten done in the last couple of days:
The tires are the same as on the RD - Golden Boys - you can't beat the price from Motorcycle Superstore; about $70 for the pair, shipped.
By low cost I mean the whole thing should be under $600 (including the bike ;D ). It is my buddies bike and he picked it up for a whopping $50... "Beware Creeping Perfection" - I like that, haven't heard it b4... One of my favorites, since I'm an engineer, is "You can have things good, fast, or cheap; pick 2" - With this build I'm going for cheap and good
I'm planning on modifying the stock seat foam into a sort of Brat/Cafe seat with the taillight & turn signals integrated into the back of it; not exactly sure how that is all gonna work yet but I'll figure it out.
