74 CB360T Rookie Build

Looks good bro.

Be sure to triple check all measurements before drilling the new bars for lock pins and wiring. Use a dremel, files, whatever you got to clean up ALL sharp edges of wire holes. (dont need vibration to cut wires) Harbor freight has great prices on good shrink tube and you cant beat the HF $13 heat gun.

BE super carefull pulling, pushing and cussing wires out of the stock bars. Oil them up if need be. Taking your time and patience are key. DONT break wires at control switches. It can be a bear of a job. grrrr

Re-intsalling wires in tarozzis is a breeze. 8)

Oooo I just noticed in your pics you got a blue left pipe! Maybe carbs, I dont know for sure but timing may also cause this. Either way on stock triple wall headers...it cant be good.

VERY soon youre gonna need to check sync, adj A/F mix and/or check for clogged jet or circuit.

Heres a carb post I wrote. read and understand it.

PJ is the only guy that makes and sells the sync gauge adapters for the 360. Get a hold of him for that.

Nice looking bike man. I'm doing a custom build on the same exact bike they sure are dime a dozen. Yours is a much nicer starting point though. Lucky yours came with that nice set of stock pipes, mine were replaced with some GIANT Moto guzzi pipes.

If you're a (relatively) tall guy and still planning on mounting rear sets, don't even bother mounting them to the passenger pegs, super awkward positioning.

Trek - thanks for the tips on the bars. I think they'll be in today. Ordered them too late on Friday so he didnt get them sent out till Monday. No biggie. Btw is there much to taking the trip top off? Or just take the 3 nuts off and im good? Ill consult my manual first haha.
The headers turned blue after my brother took a ride. Hw said he was doing 60 and it all of a sudden bogged down real bad like it had now power. He made it home and i saw that his pants or something had flipped open the choke. Ive since not had any problems and its running great. Not gonna dig into the carbs until its time to rejet with the new exhaust. IF I can ever find that right header from a cl360 :-(
Adventurco - Im 5 10, and still not sure which rear sets im getting. Do they all mount to stock rear peg mounts?

You should be able to mount any set there. I'm 6'1 and my legs were basically folded into pretzels when I dry fitted mine onto the pass pegs. They're too high. I'm fabricating some 1-off peg mounts to give myself some more room.

I also beat the crap out of my tank with a shaping hammer to make some room for my knees

Haha nice! Yeah my positions going to change so we'll see whats comfortable and make adjustments if necessary. Not planning on beating my tank in just yet haha :)

Im in love with the mail lady... and shiny things haha

My God Eric you werent joking about pulling the old wires out. A little wd made the right side much easier. I shouldnt complain though. This bike was recently restored so, when im being smart about it, everything has come apart pretty easily. *knocking on wood*

be very careful when setting up the bars. DONT let em hit (dent) tank when you check turning clearances.

Obviously, they can be flipped, swapped, flopped, twisted, angled...etc for most comfy fit.

Mine looked to me as though they are installed completely bass ackwards. But, that position allowed for the most "pull back" at the grips so Im not stretched way out and forward. And gives tightest best fit to clear the triple top and tank w the controls when tire is turned all the way. At first I thought it looked a little weird, but now I dont even notice the positioning of the clamps at all.

I like how they dont include any torque specs for the morse tapered joints. I also gave all the bolts a dose of purple locktite. I believe the most common torque spec I found (googling) for the large joint bolts is 40ft lbs. But now I dont even remember what size and thread pitch those bolts are...so DONT assume that is the correct answer.

Figure out what the bolts are and find the answer for yourself. Then report back to me. LOL

All I can tell u is this. Mine havent cracked from over torque or folded under from under torque. 8)

Yeah how tight for these clips? Till they touch?

Getting ready to take off the tree top. Anything i should know?

Dont put any weight on the bike until triple is re-installed. Thats a lot of leverage on just the lower clamps.

yep, I may have already said this...100 times, lol...dont overtighten triple top clamp bolts. check torque specs in the manual. its like 12 or 18 or some shit. almost practically nothing. and yes, they will crack.

Ok cool. .. done for tonight.

Will be drilling my holes then installing controls and tightening everything down tomorrow and maybe enough time for a test ride.
Thanks for the help!

Re: 74 CB360T Rookie Build

Couldnt help myself... Stayed up and finished. Only problem is the angled fitting on the brake line is all wrong for these bars. Thats as far down as i can get the brake lever. Fine tuning throttle cable and brake line tomorrow then test ride.
