Well here we go ladies and gents!
I picked up this old girl about a month ago and I've been scouring the internet looking for ideas/parts for the build and I have a pretty solid picture in my head so the tear down begins!
Didn't get a "in original condition" picture because I was so damn excited to get to work but here she is with only a few parts stripped.

A little rust here and there but all in all she's in great condition and I got her for a steal so I can't complain. Its getting fresh powder coat anyways!

I bought the bike from the original owner who got the bike brand new when he was 13! He had to put lowering links in and shave some foam out of the seat just so he could touch the ground haha. A pretty bad ass 13 year old if you ask me.

gonna need some new rubber

has some OLD pipes on it. Knockin them loose and putting on a fresh set of Carpy's 4-1. gonna sound goooood!

there those lowering links are haha

electrical is in great condition. Its a shame I'm chopping it all up.

got a set of Carpy's rear sets and they are smooth. Bolt right on and come with everything I needed. I wanted to weld on my own clean mounts but these are great and I can always pull the sets of the mounts and make my own so bonus!

So there it is. The beginnings of a beauty. I'm hoping to have it all torn down this week and after I grind off all the unnecessary BS from the frame its going to powder coat along with a bunch of other parts.
I'll keep you guys posted.

Oh and if anyone wants some original parts I am keeping them all just in case so hit me up!

Very Cool ! Please keep the original tank and color, the patina is beautyfull !
I'm doing a simular build ( but with Guiliari seat )

Where do the rear sets bolt on ?
EDIT "found it on Carpy's site "

Need any help with local resources give me or Redbird a shout!

Thanks tetter! I'm going to be keeping the original tank but I'm going to re-paint it. The original paint is not in the best shape rust wise but the patina does give it a good look. I'm also considering hammering in knee inserts but I'm gonna see how I feel about it when I get my rear seat.

I'm having a beautiful seat made by Benjie and Benjie'scaferacers.com. I'm getting the two seater with a fiberglass cowl so It will still have that streamline cafe look but I can give someone a ride if I need to. super excited about it! If you need anything custom made I highly recommend Benjie. He has been super helpful with my build and always gets right back to me and gives me ideas.

and Smajure! Nice to meet you! I will definitely have to give you guys a shout.

So I did a test fit to see how I'm gonna fit with the new seat ending before the crossbar with the rear sets and bars. Its a little cramped and Its gonna be worse with the new seat because it doesn't have as much foam but I think I'll be able to manage.

I may have to re-name this build "all knees and elbows" haha.

Build update- The bike is stripped down to just the frame and motor now. I'm having a few friends come over tomorrow to help me shimmy it out. From what I've been reading it sounds like its gonna be a bitch but I think we can get it with 4 people.
The real test will be putting it back in without scratching up the fresh powder coat or paint. I've decided I'm going to put in the hours and polish the heads and covers on the engine to a mirror finish and paint the rest black. I know its not very original but I like the look of it.
Huge shipment of parts coming tomorrow!!!! Its gonna be like Christmas!

I have a quick question for you guys:

What the hell is this thing? It mounts behind the headlight but I'm not sure what its for.

Also I think the last owner had a slight exhaust leak haha

That would be the turn signal buzzer. To alert you that you forgot to cancel it. The one on my '78 actually worked... until I did my custom LED conversion. Then it would only groan out a weak uuuuhhhh.
Toss it. You won't miss it at all ;)

Oh, and I hear there's a trick to getting the motor back in the frame with a minimum of fuss, although I've never tried it. Drain the engine of oil and lay it on it's side. Then drop the frame over the motor. It's much easier to maneuver the lighter frame around the heavy motor, than vice versa.

Bonus points for using the nice rearsets. They are not carpy's they are Tarozzi http://www.fastfromthepast.com/servlet/the-template/faq/Page but that doesnt matter

Might want to look into something other then pods. Those emgo pods kill power and are a pain to tune
SOHC4 forum has a few options, great site to check out for ideas too.

That rear wheel is a "harley" rim and a performance killer.
Bolt on alloy wheels are not hard to fine, look great and more importantly perform well too
And as you said the lowering links are funny at best. Hot ticket is about half and inch down in the front and one inch up in the rear. DOHC Honda shocks are one inch longer then the SOHC and offer an affordable simple bolt on upgrade.

Also might want to think about adjustable tomesseli clubmans.
Most off the shelf clubmans are not wide enough to be mounted correctly with the CB750 top triple, or they hit the tank.

I used the "take the frame of the engine" method, and it worked fine with only me and my nephew.
Take off the oil, and protect the engine with some wood ( there is a bolt thingy sticking out from the ignition side I put the timber around that )
Mounting the engine is rather easy if you use 2 car jacks ( the ones with wheels ).
Put the engine next to the frame, lift it on the jack and tillt it somewhat.
"inside" of the frame, have the other jack ready to take the engine over, and tillt to the other side.
then you are in the frame, and need to tillt it to the front to have the rear engine mounts lift in the frame brackets.
I have done this with my nephew, just the 2 of us in about 30 / 45 minutes.

His was a K7, and he had the exhaust mounting studs / threaths sticking out which made it difficult.
After removing those it got more easy, there is not much room, but it is enough.

Be sure to protect the frame, I'm planning on using a water hose on my fresh frame, cut it open lenght wise, wrap around the frame, and "mount" with tape. ::)

yeah page 2!
surffly- lol yeah I know the rear sets were from Trozzi. I was just saying that in case anyone was wondering where I get em. Can't get anything past you haha! They are worth every penny. I'm going to have to look into those adjustable clubmans. These actually fit pretty well but it would be nice to be able to tune them in. As for the pod filters and rear wheel they are already scrapped and I have a set of full bell velocity stacks on the way along with a new rear wheel from dimecity. She is gonna be slickkkk. I'll also keep the stance you were talking about in mind. I do need rear shocks but I've almost cashed out my budget for the bike so far so they may have to wait a bit.

Tetter and redbird- Thanks for the advice for pulling out the motor. I researched the best way to get it out quite a bit and a lot of people said that the "on the side" route was the best. I was prepared to lay the bike on its side and called 2 buddies over to help and I thought to myself "f*ck it! lets give just pulling it out a shot. I straddled the bike and had one guy on each side and it literally slid out. It barely touched anything. I don't know if it was luck or what but it was really uneventful. took about 10 seconds to get it out of the frame and on the ground.

alrighty!
So its been a while. I've been working offshore A LOT and haven't had much time to work on the bike or keep you guys updated but here are a few pics for ya.

new seat finally came and she is beautiful! I can remove the fiberglass cowl and there is a passenger seat underneath. Still needs paint. This is just the primer color.

also. I have everything I need to re-assemble the bike accept for a new rear wheel and spokes just because money is a little tight. The frame and swingarm are back from powder coat and look GREAT. As soon as I get a week or so on land she should be up and running. Just in time for winter!!!

Alrighty well its been a long time since I posted but I wanted to give everyone a little update.
The bike is completely ready to rebuild but unfortunately I was cut off by a car on my bicycle before the superbowl and fractured my hand. Its lookin like another month before I can get back in the shop but I wanted to let you guys Know that I haven't forgotten about you.

What, you need two hands to post up pics of the C10?!

Just messin with ya ;) Heal up proper, the bike will wait ;)
